Title: Televisions
Description: Has anyone been retuned?
CatWithClaws - July 18, 2004 08:44 AM (GMT)
Hiya
Quick question. Has anyone ever had their UK TV successfully retuned to work in Oz? We're packing up on Friday (omg!!!) and just wondering if it's worth bringing our set. It's a fairly new Panasonic one (that's as technical as I get I'm afraid) and we tried e-mailing Panasonic to find out, but of course, this is England, so we got no reply!!

We found we were ok with ours. Fortunately ours was a 'multinational' TV and just plugged in here and went....
You could always bring it anyway, and use it for Playstation if it doesn't work on Oz TV

if you buy an aus video recorder, you can get aus tv and run it through a uk tv (if you want it!!!)

Ours is just a fairly basic Thompson about 2 years old and it worked fine. Bring it anyway and try when you get here. We fully expected ours not to work but it works fine. Not that there's anything worth watching

Hi Diane,
I emailed toshiba about our television and this was there reply-
Dear Mr Tracey,
Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
requested as follows:
We recommend that Toshiba televisions purchased in the UK are not taken to
another country because these televisions have been designed for use on the
English PAL-I system, and will work on a voltage of 220-260V. If you do
take your set to another country it may require considerable modification
at your cost and cannot be fully tested before leaving the UK, also the
availability and ability of service companies in the other country will be
unknown
I am still going to take it as is fairly new and rather expensive to replace, just hope i am doing the right thing. Anyway if a was to sell it before going i would pretty much have to give it away.

HI Kev
If that's true that it's only any good on PAL1 then you're stuck with the other suggestion of running the signal through an Oz video I guess (though I haven't tried this).
Is there any mention in the manual of international settings? You'll get either pic or sound but not both at once if not!

Hi Elaine,
Will look at the manual tonight and see, but from what i have been reading it may be cheaper to buy OZ video if doesn't work without any alterations, so either way i will bring the tv over. It's a 36inch tv so no way am i leaving that behind, it's my boys toy.
I have already hacked the DVD player so it can play multi region so that's no problem now.

Thanks for that Kev, I'll have a go later!
It'll save trying to sell it and having to buy another out there, if it works on my dvd.
Cheers, Jules :D

Checked my tv instruction manual and it looks like i can just change the settings when i get there, so shouldn't cost me anything. The other older television we have i will just get a Ausssie video.
It is worth checking you instruction manual.
