from our guidelines....
http://z2.invisionfree.com/Adelaidebrits/i...?act=boardrules"We reserve the right to edit or remove any posted content. Topics may be deleted or closed to keep the board organized and up to date."
This includes keeping posts on topic.
The original query had been answered.......and was closed to prevent off topic posting.
If people wish to take up space writing "up the blues/reds/greens/whatever", they can start their own thread.....or perhaps use a local bus shelter
:)

...so a discussion on Liverpool v Everton warrants post deletion to keep the board organised does it? Please explain how that thread contravened any Invision rules as I can't see how they would have been offended in any way whatsoever.

the post was a query on where a match was being shown....the question was answered to the satisfaction of the original poster.
The rest of the post..."up the reds/blues etc" "two nil yay"..etc etc had no bearing on the original post, hence the post was edited and locked.........people are free to put up their own 'two nil-yay" threads in an appropriate place......either here in the sports section, or....preferably,...elsewhere......the net is full of soccer forums where people can "yay" to their hearts content.
that....... or I'm a crazed megalomaniac big brother nazi type
pick one, I'm happy either way :)
As I've said before (but not for a while.....) anyone who doesn't like the way the forum runs can request a full refund of what they paid to join.... :)

In that case we can presumably all look forward to a thorough spring clean of the entire board, locking or deleting all topics in which a question was asked that has since been satisfactorily answered.
We wait, with breath bated.

No....we tend to keep all of the questions and answers in the hope that one day we might have a functioning search engine
Unfortunately, those searching for "two-nil yay" or "go the .......'s" might be disappointed.
I wouldn't be bating my breath for too long.......... as you know, we do move in mysterious ways........
FredG - September 8, 2006 07:03 AM (GMT)
So how is it that mouldy old posts are not deleted even when questions such as "how about a night out on..." have long since been answered and the date in question is many moons past?
Two examples below. Neither are relevant, neither asked any specific questions that are worth keeping around, neither contain any useful info, yet they are still present.
http://z2.invisionfree.com/Adelaidebrits/i...p?showtopic=143http://z2.invisionfree.com/Adelaidebrits/i...p?showtopic=124If a search engine ever does come into being it'll probably work a damn sight faster if stuff like this wasn't around.

Those are back to 2004!
We're learning and trying to improve as we go along, but I, for one am not about to volunteer to go back through 400+ pages of posts in the general area alone to clear to clear out the dead stuff.
But to show good faith - I'll move this to debate.

They may well go back to 2004, however the point is that they are still around even though a 2006 thread, even though it may have been about nothing in particular, was deleted because it was deemed not relevant.
This is more of an issue to do with moderating skills and double standards rather than which posts are deleted etc
As to having a life, you mods wanted the job so go and do it properly. Form a committee - trawl through the board and delete all irrelevant posts. Believe me, you'd be more highly thought of if you actually made a bit more of a constructive effort rather than just pontificate and blow a lot of unnecessary hot air.

Well, if someone says "yes" then they should be happy to do a bit of trawling through back posts with the aim of weeding out the irrelevant ones. One is either prepared to give time to a project or one is not.

Getting touchy now are we?
I'm well aware of where Invisionfree is located and although it's free, if I were to start a forum I would probably use vBulletin and pay a yearly fee. Anyway that's a moot point as I, (and others seemingly), are questioning the moderating skills here, not elsewhere.
If you want a good example of good and open moderating go see www.whirlpool.net and also have a read of their FAQ section

mmm, not quite
this is my game and, like it or not, it's played by my rules, (although there aren't many). I don't need to take my ball home because the game is still being played.
If you don't want to play, that's ok, there's a million other games going on, you could join one of those.
Incidentally, someone seems to have started a thread that covers all of the information that you previously wanted to share....

This is, of course, assuming there is a new "cleaner, meaner board" on the horizon to look forward to. I would be disappointed after all this if the original thread was locked purely because of some kind of mod PMT.
With regard to clearing out/deleting the old posts, how many mods are there? 10 or so? It wouldn't be too much of a task if you each took the time to weed out, say, 5 per day.

oh just ask Andy - he'll explain. Or read the posts.
(In essence, if posts are locked for being irrelevant then the same standard should apply throughout the board, including trawling through the old stuff and locking (or preferably deleting) those that are complete crud).
Edit: can't spell.

Threads are not locked because they are irrelevant, threads are locked to prevent further postings.

you still don't seem to have grasped the fact that this is a dictatorship (well, more of a junta now...Thanks Perry). we might decide tomorrow that everyone with a "g" in their name will have their posts locked........and there really isn't much anyone can do about it.
Luckily, we are a largely fair and amiable junta.we don't mind when people take out their frustrations on us, call us names and pontificate about our childhoods. We are understanding and tolerant, (human too, which shows up when we make mistakes). I'm happy to say, no one has ever been banned from the board....even some who have set out to and succeeded in damaging the board.
Folk who have been members for a while know our "style".....and that's how it is....and I for one am pretty happy........and I'm sorry you aren't

Hi Red.
I come on here quite a lot and I reckon I could name (but wont  ) 6 members that are unhappy with the way the forum is run.
I think thats pretty good going when you consider how many members we have.
You cant please all the people all the time but I think we please most of the people most of the time.
Big D - September 20, 2006 05:12 AM (GMT)
As any old bod on the forum, my problem with the disgruntled is that if your only contribution to AdelaideBrits is going to be negative and disruptive, I don’t understand why you would want to post at all.
Anyone can get frustrated or even annoyed over something that is said or actioned on a forum. That’s fine by me, it happens in life and there’s nothing wrong with contributing to a healthy debate in response, even if for one or two posts you are heavily critical. But if you have become so disgruntled that the site only ever annoys you; to the point where you can’t bring yourself to make any positive contributions at all, then why not look elsewhere?
It’s nothing personal, just a suggestion - you might find a site that will cheer you up.
I think the recent personal attacks that have been made to Administrators and Moderators are extremely selfish and thoughtless. Imagine the restraint you would have to show if you were in their shoes, dealing with vindictive posts for so much of your personal time when your contribution is purely voluntary.
Sorry, but if are continually going to drag up dirt, your contributions are just not helpful. I for one (a normal everyday member) do not welcome them.
