Title: What food are you craving???

moomins - September 10, 2006 09:41 AM (GMT)
We have been here for a while now, and whilst I feel we have adjusted well, there are still a few things we miss.

Angel delight.
Chinese food.
Chips without chicken salt automatically added!!
Cadburys proper chocolate.
Quavers and skips.
Carling black label.
Golden virginia.
Cheap bananas.
Sugar puffs.

Cant wait for xmas for my pressie from the uk.!!! As much as we miss all this, it wouldn,t make us go back though.

Any thoughts?

M. :)

Cravings just about gone now....

I don't search the shelves for Paxo, brown Bisto or colemans mint sauce anymore (which is a shame because I've been here long enough now to know where to get them!)

But Chicken Salt - I can't imagine ever getting used to that - urgghh

I have a pack of butterscotch and chocolate in my cupboard right now .. we used to eat loads of the stuff in the UK .. my Mum sends them over in a pack, only light!

You can get quavers at the lolly shop sometimes too!

I miss big mozarella in a packet with the water, especially the half fat ones .. they have the tiny little ones here, that I have to spend ages fiddly cutting to go on pasta ..

Half fat, low fat food - it was so much easier in the Uk .. everything here is full of sugar. I miss Boots shapers!!! (especially the fajita wraps)

All I can think of at the moment .. trying to avoid thinking about the obvious

Oh and soggy chips yummm ...

Hi Nikki,

I love butterscotch, its my favourite. Does your Mum want my address!!!!!!!!!
I am glad its not just me missing things. It seems really petty in the grand scale of things, but hey, thats what makes us human. We always want what we cant have.
Keep coming with your thoughts, it makes good reading.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm..........decent curry sauce n chips after a night on the ale!!! :happy25:

Hhhmmm...well I still have 2 giant 500G tubs of Marmite left.

I miss my local curry house, but I only had one a month in the UK. I do miss Sainsbury's Roasted Red Pepper Humous and Pampers...but these things are not essential!

Ohhhhhhh.... Tescos chicken caesar wraps - have tried all sorts of variations here but not the same! And while I'm on the subject, how comes the supermarkets out here don't sell loads of ready made sarnies? I know some of the petrol stations do now but I'm sure it must be a big money spinner for the supermarkets in the UK, judging by how fast the sandwich fridge used to empty!

moomins - September 18, 2006 04:13 AM (GMT)
I know what you mean about the sandwiches. From what I can gather the Australians are not very keen on convenience foods, as in the frozen sections, you dont get much choice when it comes to pies etc...
Not that that is such a bad thing but God do I miss Iceland.!!(The shop and not the country).

Probably no need to seeing as they are hugely into SUBWAY. I much prefer to get something made there than to have a supermarket sandwich.

How about Chips from a fish & chip shop with MALT vinegar. Next time you are somewhere and see the little sachets of matl vinegar, grab them for your luggage.

I don't really miss the food any more. You can get most things here anyway. I miss Mum's home made cooking the most. :D

blackcountrygirl - September 21, 2006 12:07 PM (GMT)
Fred likes all the fish here but I don`t, you used to be able to get frozen cod here but I`ve not seen it for years, tried the cod from the fish shop near woolies in marion, but its not the same, I can eat Tuna and tinned Salmon but thats all, so like Delboy, I miss the cod

and yes after 16yrs I still miss somethings, but I don`t crave for them, and oh when my sister was here she said can`t you get Clover, she said its like butter, never heard of it but I said I`ll find out and if I can get it, it will be in the fridge when she returns next year, so , what can you guys come up with

Sheila

It's odd but I have been here so long now I don't even know what half the stuff is that you are yearning for!

But I do miss my mum's steak and kidney pudding! And tubs and tubs and tubs of taramasalata from the deli counters in Safeway and Tesco's ........ I used to eat kilos of the stuff morning, noon and night mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Sunshine - September 23, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
Went into both M&S and Sainsbury's yesterday and OMG! Stood there like the village idiot just taking it all in! The choice, the selection.... mind blowing, took me ages to go round but managed to be very restrained only filled 1 trolley not 2

Although I have to say all the things I thought I couldn't wait to buy, I actually didn't pick up when I was actually standing in front of them  might be because of the diet i've been on (they were all stuff that was bad for me!) or just because they now seemed "foreign" (for want of a better word) to me.

But overall the supermarket seemed horrendously (sp?) busy, loud, just about remembered to pack my own bag and the traffic in the carpark :o
And seeing all the prices in £ again :ph43r: made everything seem soooo cheap.

Just Tesco to go now! :D

Sunshine.

I heard somewhere they were stopping making bacon flavour wheat crunchies :sigh:

They now make creme egg bars - a bit like the old Frys cream bars but they're not the same.
