Title: Looking for Accommodation
Description: on arrival

austensue - June 28, 2004 07:41 AM (GMT)
:help:
Can anyone suggest any good/reasonable places to stay short term (4-6 weeks) when we arrive in Adelaide?
I have been looking at the holiday apartments/homes, as we will need somewhere furnished until our stuff turns up, but some of them can be quite expensive and we don?t want to blow away too much of our money on some luxury place just because it?s all we can find.
What did you guys out there already do when you first got there?
We have made enquiries about the On Arrival Accommodation with Immigration SA but apparently it is booked up until September and we intend jetting out as soon after the end of July as possible.
I suppose if it comes to it we could stay in a hotel for a few nights until we get our bearings as I?m sure we will be able to find something but I haven?t had much luck on the internet! Any good sites/recommendations would be greatfully appreciated (beer or 2 once settled) :D

Hi Austen/Sue
We stayed at Brighton Caravan Park for 4 weeks on arrival, it's right on the seafront, clean and pleasant and the park manager is very helpful. Mind you we were there in December, you won't be on the beach so much in July brrrr.... We had an executive cabin - 2 bedrooms, one double and one with 2 sets bunks, plus very reasonable living space, kitchen area and bathroom.

Should have said, for say 4 weeks you could probably persuade the caravan park to do you a deal on a cabin - especially as it's low season for them, they'll be glad to have you!!

We stayed at a Hostel, it was called the The Guest House and was part of Back Pack OZ, on Wakefield St.

I was a bit dubious of staying in a Hostel, but we had a Quad room, double and two singles, just for us and the kids. It had a shared Bathroom, which consisted of Cubicle showers and toilets and a shared kitchen. We didn't actually see many guests, the proper backpackers stayed over the road, we popped overthere in the evenings to have a drink and play a bit of pool.

We met some fantastic people and were made very welcome and highly reccomend the place. it was $88.00 per night for the room and it included breakfast which you helped yourself to, we also had a TV in the room. There was a paper to read each morning too, so it made it easier for house hunting.

We stayed for a couple of weeks.

Tracey

Hi Austen,
We too are taking advantage of Suzanne (OOH MISSUS :P )after Elaine recommended her. She has been really helpful and cheerful. I too was getting panicky about things at this late stage and she's really helped the whole situation for me. We still dont know exactly WHERE we are going to stay, but she is lining up a holiday chalet for the first few weeks while we view some rental properties that she has organised.
Good Luck. See you on the 'other side'

Hi, I'ts been a while since I lasted posted,
Any way we now have visa's and have just about got every thing sorted But are having a hard time trying to sell our house. And our visa's have to be validated before Febuary 04, So we are looking in to going over for a holiday/reccy.
Acording to travel agent it's cheaper after January 16th.
So can anyone recommend somewhere to stay, We were thinking of maybe Caravan/Chalet, Cost is an issue but we have two young girls 3&6 so it must be somwhere suitable. Also were going to rent a car so location is not that important as we need to travel around looking at areas etc. Somewhere south of the city and not nessaceraly by the beach.
We would greatful for any help......

Thanks Gary.

Gary..if you are coming in our summertime i really wouldnt advise a caravan as it would be like an oven inside unless you got a really fancy one (not even sure if they come with aircon)
Elaine will be bale to tell you a nice place she stayed at when she firs tarrived. I know its not far from my house but cant remember the name of it.

Shes gone out for the evening but i am sure she will let you know sometime later.

I stayed in cabins on two caravan parks when i first landed, they both had air-con.
cost around $50 per night

pickledpossum - July 22, 2004 09:46 AM (GMT)
thats good ot know Sean...do you know if the caravans had it though?...i am sure modern ones must have them out here surely?...but i still not sure i would want to be in one for long at over 40 degrees ...do you remember where it was you stayed?

i'm not sure about the caravans that you tow behind your car, but the motor home i used a couple of years ago did.
I stayed in nuriootpa and mt barker, oh and murray bridge, they all had air con.
If I remember rightly the cabins at belair and semaphore park also have air-con.
I think most have to be honest.

Elaine - July 22, 2004 09:54 AM (GMT)
Quick reply - going out any sec - brightoncaravanpark.com.au from memory! Cabins had aircon, have to check caravans.

I stayed in the Glenelg motel on tapleys hill road. They have a pool which is nice in the summer and they have reasonalble rates and if you are staying for a week or two will give you a discount
