Himself has decided that he is deffo bringing his bike with him and I have seen that it can go in the container if theres room, (All of a sudden the man who hoards is chucking things out! ).
Had a look at the FAQs and have the websites for bringing motor vehicles into Aus but just wondered if anyone on here had done this?
Thanks
Lea :)
Its 10 years old and not worth too much but its his baby!!!!!!
Unless it's something really special it's probably not worth it.
Also has he considered the personal comfort issues of wearing a helmet, gloves, leathers, boots etc in 35 degree heat? Especially as he'll never be allowed to ride fast enough to keep cool!
Fred,
I know what you mean about the heat, he used to ride bikes whilst working in the Middle East at temperatures of 40 and 50 degrees - I think he's mad but after biking for 25 years he'll never give it up!

Hi, WE brought two motorbikes over in our container of household stuff. It was a pretty easy task. We had to get importation documents from Canberra before they left the UK. Notify DVLA that we were exporting them. On arrival of us in Adelaide, we went to the Transport Offices at Regency Park and filled out a load of forms, we needed these in order to import the bikes. The movers sorted out getting them valued etc. for us for a small fee (for the payment of GST). We then had to get the bikes checked at Transport SA, Regency Park. We had to apply for a special permit to ride it around the corner to Regency Park as they still had UK plates on! We had to stamp an aussie VIN number (that they issued us with) onto the frame (basically the UK one with 000 to make it up to right number of digits). They also tested the bikes to ensure that lights etc worked. It was less stringent than MOT test. After issuing us with new plates we were allowed to drive them on the road and told we would have to put an aussie compliance plate on the bike, which they provided at no extra cost, a little while later.
There is no import duty to pay on motorcycles like there is on cars.
We found the process pretty straightforward. If it can fit in the container, I would do it. Be aware that you must keep the bike for a minimum of a year before you can sell it.
Hope that is helpful
