Title: $100K in government bond

Has anyone done this? We may have to deposit $100K in a government bond to gain extra points.

Any comments please?

Lorraine

Hi Lorraine

We are going to have to stump up the 100k capital bond due to being 5 points short. It seems that unless you are lucky enough to have this sort of money laying about the house the only other option is to borrow against the house by equity or self certification mortgage. We have friends who have just completed all their financial stuff for their bond and it seemed quite straight forward so that has put my mind at rest. The bond is requested after your meds and police are submitted (around a month later) and then when you recieve it you have a certain amount of time to get the bond to them i think about 40 days. All seems a bit scary doesn't it. Well we are just waiting now for police and meds to be requested and then we will start the ball rolling for this bond so that things are in motion and ready for when they want it.

Dawn ;)

We had to go via this route.

I e-mailed all the states to get their rates etc but only NT responded on the same day so we went with them. Their paperwork also seemed simpler than the others.

The rates are broadly similar across all states so pick the one that you feel in tune with. We're on 5%.

E-mail john.kidd@nt.gov.au if you want info on the Northern Territories Bond.

PM me if you want copies of the docs they sent me.

Fred.

I 've done it a month ago. My agent recomended NSW treasure department, because he himself lives in Sydney. He pushed them a little bit, those guys are a bit lazy. I was given my visa about two weeks after the bond was lodged.

I'm confused as I followed a link on one of the other posts here and it said you only need 70 points, so how can you be 5 points short? :o
