Title: Repatriation Insurance
Snappy - October 20, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
On one of my other websites we had been talking about how people have coped when a loved one gets illl or worse in the UK when you are living in Oz. One of the members said they bought some Repatriation Insurance which covered the cost of a flight back to the UK in these circumstances.
Has anyone heard of this? They say it costs them about 50 pounds a year but if a parent or sibling gets ill or dies they can just up and leave and not worry about the cash.
I know we all like to plan and have a secret stash of cash somewhere for this sort of situation but if your like me money seems to hate my company and parts very easily, so this might be something worth while looking into!

Hi.
OE do this type of insurance for approx 50pounds per annum per person.
The main benefit is travel upto the value of 1500 pounds, to visit seriously ill relatives or bereavements.
We've just taken this policy.

Are they the only company that offers it then? I'm not recommending anyone here as I don't have it just that I thought it was a one way to help some people cope with this sort of dilema as it does seem to be one of the BIG worries in moving to Oz for most members.
Kevin how often can you use that insurance i.e. what if a parent falls seriously ill can you keep popping back on the insurance say 4 times a year???

I just answered my own question as the cover is for one year (paid every year to renew a new policy) and you get up to 1500 pounds for a flight per policy so once a year.

Just read the policy wording on the OE site, it is a minefield, so many if's and buts etc. It appears they will not cover you for attendance to a funeral unless you are a last remaining relative. The the relative needs to be virtually in intensive care before they will even look at approving a claim.
http://www.overseas-emigration.co.uk/immig...y-schedule.htmlI have had a look for brokers and agents in Australia that offer this kind of policy but it would appear on the surface of it, none do.

It appears to me ,after having read the policy wording that.........
You can claim if your close relative is in intensive care, and about to die(providing they didnt have the illness within the last 12 months w,or when you bought the policy)
You can claim if you can prove your a trustee of the decesed will
You can claim if you are the last remaining relative and need to arrange funeral.
From my understanding, you cant claim if someone dies and you go back for the funeral.(the one thing wed all want the insurance for).
If ive read it wrong, feel free to correct me on it.
