Title: Need your reply yesterday!
Description: Marks out of 10, who did you use?

THE MANN CLAN - July 31, 2004 09:56 PM (GMT)
Hello peeps really need to grab as many opinions as quick as I can.
Less than 4 weeks to go 'til the house has to be empty.
I have waded through heaps of the old threads but I need to be able to make a decision soon...
So PLEASE tell me who you used, give them a score out of 10 and tell me anything you think I might have forgotten to ask?!?
I know you can do it!
Cheers

crown ; 8 out of 10 .
Probebly more pricey than some of our other quotes but we were pleased with the service we recieved and only very slight breakage on an item that wasnt wrapped properly.
The whole shipment turned up in Adelaide a month earlier than expected.

The one dissapointment was we did choose them because they said the ship would come straight into Adelaide and in the end it went to Melbourne then down here by train which could have led to more chances of items getting broken .

We used Doree Bonner.

10/10 England end. The guys that turned up were on time, polite and worked like trojans.

8/10 Oz end (they use Grace at this end). Although they turned up on time and everything arrived in one piece my only real gripe was that when they left the said to call them when we had finished with the boxes, packaging etc and they would collect them for recycling. It took 2 weeks and about 4 phone calls to get the boxes removed, which were filling our shed and meant that our bicycles had to be kept in the house! Got a result eventually but they NEVER phoned back when they said they would.

Just to add my two penneth!
We used PSS when we moved to NZ.
The did an excellent job with the packing, really took the stress out of it all for us, were polite and courteous.
Absolutly NOTHING was broken when it arrived.
Hope this helps.

hi,
We used pickfords, Well known, and they were the cheapest. They packed up the entire contents, shipped them ( WA, perth) and unpacked the lot at the this end.
We even got a small hamper with essential items, to get us started. The staff at both ends were fantastic and very helpfull.
One word of warning though, If you tell them you want everything in a certain room packed, they will ! If your dog doesnt move quick enough, he is will be packed. If you have ash trays, make sure they are empty or when you get to Oz, you will find them still with contents.
The insurance is very expensive, so we opted for our own minimum insurance.
we were told 6 weeks, We got to Perth (hotel paid for 10 days in advance) we gave them a call. We were told our stuff was already there and customs cleard and they could deliver the next morning, and they did,9:00am.
It only took 4 weeks & 1 day from the day it left until the day it was deliverd.
(St Andrews, to Perth)

Hope this helps !!!!

We used Bishops Move, one of our cheapest quotes.

9/10 for the service. Efficient packing apart from a couple of strange things like pouring all the lego, meccano, toy cars and train set from their separate crates into one cardboard box - then packing the crates in the next box leaving me to sort it all out on arrival  This was just one individual though and they were all nice guys who worked well.

This end they used Kent - again very happy with the service.

We had a couple of breakages which we claimed through insurance and got paid, no problem.

We chose carefully what to insure as every insured item has to be listed - we insured breakables + a 'basic household kit' - ie beds, table and chairs, sofas, washing machine, fridge, computer etc. Didn't insure toys, books and all the other general stuff.

It took longer than expected to get here, but that was due to bad weather and a strike in Singapore so hardly the shipper's fault!

Best of luck Gils!

Anglo Pacific - Northern (Manchester) Branch 10/10

excellent service. shipment got here so quick we had to put it in storage!!! :D

xcaretuk - August 2, 2004 01:38 AM (GMT)
PSS - Brilliant, professional service from start to finish, no breakages. 10/10

neatnsteve - August 2, 2004 01:48 AM (GMT)
PSS 10/10.

Flexible with Dates as you need to book them before you have a firm date often.
Nothing broken or damaged
On time no problems with Quarantine only checked our shoes The toothbrush scrub was worth it i think!
They used Kent this end also very professional and quick.
This was also my cheapest quote out of 5 and insurance was the least as well.

One thing I would say is that it feels stressful but once they come if you are ready and have removed everything you don't want to be packed they just do it and it's over.

Good luck hope this helps.

After reading this it looks like PPS are pretty good, So I contacted them this afternoon, and it must be me, they just wasn't bothered.

I gave them a choice Mon / Wed & Friday from know until the end of September and for them to pick any day that suits them, the best they could offer was there may be slot of around 24th of September, but they will give me a call closer to the time, this wasn't a booking, just a maybe date.

It's maybe because I live miles away from them (West Mids) and they're from Surry or York, both are quite a distance.

Take Care

THE MANN CLAN - August 3, 2004 08:56 AM (GMT)
Strange but true,Ozzy!
PSS for me couldn't have been more helpful and I am in a nightmare village(4x4's have difficulty turning in our roads!)
However John Mason that folks have been saying are fab were very laid back and asked for the details from another quote to save them coming - no real problem with that if they were to pass the savings onto me in their quote...but no...
So I have to agree it must be area specific.

Many thanks again for all the recommendations -could one of the mighty ones(SASHA/ELAINE/NIKKI) now move this to the shipping bit as I think we shall be making the decision tonight.

THANKS AGAIN

Snappy - August 3, 2004 09:46 AM (GMT)
I've just used Elaines code for moving and starred it! It shall be moved once it has gone back a few pages just in case others try to find it for a little while! ;)

Who do you think you will choose then Gils?

Sasha :)

PS it is so nice having you back posting again :D

THE MANN CLAN - August 3, 2004 10:42 AM (GMT)
Hi sasha
It's great to be back but will all come to an end at the end of this month when we move to 'the log cabin' minus any phone points!!!!! :sign68:
Think we're down to PSS or Pickfords, have to wade through all the small print and look at their suggested insurance versus independent quotes will need copius amounts of wine.
Trying to get my head round what we actually need them to pack + what we will need for 19 weeks before we leave UK+obscene amount of luggage for 38 days voyage!?!
AAHH remember when life was simple...

Snappy - August 3, 2004 10:54 AM (GMT)
You had to go the full hog though Gils and sail around the world with all your kiddies in tow!

What a nightmare I'm dreading that packing side of things and deciding what to take on a plane let alone on a cruise!

Let us know which one you decide on as I'm keeping note of all these recommendations for when our time comes! :o

Sasha :)

THE MANN CLAN - August 11, 2004 11:10 PM (GMT)
Thought I'd best add be sure to make your mind up as quick as you can.
We hummed and hawed for so long (decided to go Pickfords about £500 cheaper and they were happy to do a 2nd pick up in December for free), that we had to go with our 2nd choice because the dates we needed for house sale were already gone. :sigh:
It's not in the bag yet PSS have us in a race the first out of 3 of us to get our £250 deposit to them gets the date.I had at least provisionally booked them so that would be another gem of wisdom pre book dates with as many as you think you might use.....not really my style I hate mucking people about.
Finally if the house sale vanishes as it can so easily do or is even postponed we have to pay PSS 30% if between 7 and 14 days before date booked or 60% if less than 7 days :sign68:
Really feel an idiot for getting us into this mess, but in other ways think they're probably no worse than any of the rest it's just the uncertainty until we hand the keys over.
Talking it through we reckon we have no option but to go ahead clear the house on the booked date and if the sale is delayed we'll just beg borrow and steal from friends and family!!!
Anyone got a static caravan?

"A strike in Singapore" !? :o Horror, horror! Are you sure?

(I'm residing in Singapore - long enough - and I can assure you this is IMPOSSIBLE! Was the Mover having you on or just cooking an excuse for the delay.)

Henry

Elaine - August 12, 2004 06:33 AM (GMT)
Well we heard both tales, though I can't remember the sources now - 'strike' and 'storms' and I never was quite sure which was the actual problem! Maybe the strike was somewhere else, but one way or another it wasn't on the ship it should have been on, and got stuck on the quayside in Singapore for a month

tracey&wayne - August 12, 2004 11:08 AM (GMT)
Ours took 4 months with PSS, due to the strikes, storms, and tornados' in Singapore!!!

We had damages and are still trying to claim back.

Don't think we'd use them again.

:sign20: TORNADOS in Singapore !! (now, I'm really laughing on the floor).

Those guys were definitely having you on. You (or anybody else) certainly don't want to use those movers ever again.

Henry - can you explain? Don't you get storms in Singapore? Tracey's and our shipments were held up at the same time so presumably by the same weather conditions. Perhaps the weather was not actually in Singapore, but the place the containers got stuck was!

Elaine,

Storms in Sgp are just a very heavy downpour, at certain times of the year accompanied by thunder and lightning. It "storms" normally Nov-Jan when we have the monsoon season. Typhoons and tornadoes we encounter them only in the cinemas and TV sets.

There may jolly well be valid reasons why yours (and Tracey's) shipment was delayed but I'm absolutely sure it was not the weather. After all, Sgp is the world's number 1 port (blessed with good, deep and calm harbours, use of hi-technology, aggressive marketing, etc). The folks who've had the chance to transit through Sgp and gone to Sentosa might have noticed those piles and piles of containers by the wharves and quaysides as you looked frome atop the cable cars.

The delay might have been due to transhipment. Ie, the ship that took your stuff to Sgp, offloaded them at Sgp, and then had to await for another ship to take it to Oz.

Oh, btw, delay caused by strikes in Sgp is also not true. Nobody, not even the unions would dream of them.

Henry

Elaine - August 14, 2004 06:04 AM (GMT)
Thanks Henry!
I note you say the storms occur Nov - Jan: well our shipment was on its way from October and arrived mid Jan. Was originally due to arrive just in time for Christmas but no such luck
