Title: What don't you miss about the UK?
Pommygirl - January 9, 2007 10:53 PM (GMT)
Following on from people wanting to go back to the UK because they miss things. What is it about the UK that you definitely don't miss .....
One for me has to be all the dog poo and chewing gum on all the footpaths.
Yuck!

For me its...
Traffic
crowds
small expensive housing.
And owing the Tax man money every year.

You racist Del Boy !!! :o
Fingers - January 10, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
Beer in pubs is more expensive here than in Scotland, that wasn't the case when I last visited and I wasn't expecting it this time around. So I miss cheaper beer. Fingers.

lisa.nick - January 10, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
Ignorant people and unhelpful staff (esp in the shops)!!
Snappy - January 10, 2007 04:02 AM (GMT)
Traffic is the big one for me
Weather is the 2nd biggest
Crowds and miserable people in cities (you know the ones who walk around looking like they are chewing a wasp!)
Doctor's receptionists who want to know the ins and outs of your problem before they make an appointment, as though they are suddenly qualified doctors  and are just plain rude and horrible to deal with.
School league tables and tests for the kids.
Not being able to plan a party in case the weather is so awful and half the people turn up just for a quick feed and a drink then bugger off down the pub just plain rude!
2 faced people who cant tell you the truth due to the stiff upper lip attitude.
Just to back up how lovely the doctors receptionist here are I just had call from ours whilst typing this to let me know they have come across something that might help with the kids immunisation records that I thought I might like  totally out of the blue and unexpected but very helpful none the less.
I'll think of some more later :D
Sasha :)

I don't miss the bullies who made my daughters life difficult, she really is livin' and lovin' it in auzz at the mo.
Don't miss having to buy named clothing so that they both fit in, here no 1 cares what you wear as long as your comfortable in yourself.
Tyke - January 10, 2007 11:27 AM (GMT)
Everyone has said what I was going to say :-)
Mrs Tyke just rang from the UK and boy she hates visiting the UK now!!!

I dont miss having to have the tumble dryer on virtually all year round, and following on from the bullying replies, it is great that my 6 year old son has no horrible comments from children and adults ref his red hair. He fits in so well over here and although we have only been here 10 months, he already speaks with an Ozzy accent to the extent that people who meet him assume he was born here!!!
Dont miss Emmerdale, Eastenders, Coronation St etc etc etc.....
Also dont miss the fact that ALL the teenagers in our local village were all taking Ketamine and whilst I know it happens here, I dont feel as though it is thrust in your face as much.

I don't miss getting on a tube in London, wondering whether we're gonna get blown up.
evorobin - April 13, 2007 01:13 PM (GMT)
The constant rain, high petrol prices, high (no ****) house prices, traffic and general cost of living relative to SA.
Saying that was in Sydney last weekend and it was like being in the UK at times. Was nice and green though.
