Title: Pool costs?
Mcphee - January 10, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
Hiya everyone, does anyone have a ball park figure for how much a pool would cost to build in Adelaide? i know it depends on size etc, but we are wondering if its worth getting a cheaper property and building one or paying more with one already built? any ideas would be welcome :D

Tough one........
Pools do vary - from above ground paddling pools to in ground semi - reservoirs.
You might just find the house of your dreams and find you cannot build a pool there.
If you do find a house of your dreams make sure you have enough room/permission and it is actually feasible.
Depends what you are looking for ,you can by a small above ground pool for just over $1000 with the basics - or the sky is the limit for an inground.
Don't forget all the added extras as well such as ,landscaping, paving and fencing. That added a further $20,000 to our pool area.
Must admit it was all worth it ,especially when my family was here at Christmas + it keeps the kids busy
Also think if it will actually add value if it is a permanent pool.
I'd certainly wait until you get here and then make your choices. :D

Hey Corker !!!
Hows your pool now ??? Are you still happy with it /Which company did you use in the end ??
Snappy - January 10, 2007 11:32 PM (GMT)
As a general rule if you are building a built in pool you work out the cost as to how many metres it is around the edge i.e. 8 x 5 pool would work out as 8+8+5+5 giving you a total of 26 metres then the cost can vary from 800 to 1200 per metre average $1000 so 26 metre x $1000 = $26,000
That's how hubbie works it out up here and most pool companies use that caluculation ;)

My advise would be to buy a house with an existing pool and save all the stress and aggravation!
Settling in to a new way of life can be hard enough without the added pressure of dealing with dodgy pool companies, builders and budgets going by the wayside!
Their are always plenty of properties for sale with pools, just a matter of finding the right house to go with it. Good luck.

My rental has a smallish pool with spa inbuilt, fully fenced, and there is a heater (which we don't use). My landlord who has been in the pool business in one way or another for a few years, was telling me the other day that from start to finish a pool like I have would cost around $60000 to install, fence and landscape nowadays.

Just had a 6.5 x 3.5 m pool installed this week from Freedom Pools in Ridgehaven.
Total cost, including extras, like fences, locks, crane hire, boards to protect your drive, soil removal, solar heating, electrician. £27000.
Took them 3 days start to finish.
pm if you need any more info.

OLD POST. We had a pool installed a few months ago. We used a company called Freeform pools, (excellent service) I don't think they have a web site, all their business is through word of mouth and brochures. Ours cost $26,000 7.5 x 3.5 (salt water) Included was ... Planning permition hole dug (maybe extra if they hit rock) earth dumped Pool constructed in your Garden (fiberglass pannels) copeing edge pumps filters solar heating Barracuda crawler (self cleaning device) Hover thingmajig on a pole thingy. a bag of salt bottle of acid test equipment. 2 weeks start to finish.

The fencing was extra at $100 a meter. Still to get a price on the paving  before summer i hope ;) very cheap and easy to maintaine If someone buying your house wanted a pool it would increase the value. If they didnt want a pool it would decrease the value. :loopy: If Estate agents tell you a pool decreases the value of your house, you should ask them why they put a meter square picture on the board outside your house to try and sell it  I reccomend Barry from Freeform pool (not to be confused with Freedompools) |
the paving is now complete.
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/132/354359294_4fd5e35ad0.jpgTotal cost including fencing and paving $31,000
I have also now found a website.

Hi All
Is it true that you have to have the safety fencing around any pool, legal reasons, esp if you have children?
Also, another quick question, do you need at least to be on a plot size of 600? & I think I read somewhere the pool has to be built so many metres from the back of the house with so many metres to the boundaries? :help:
Latter makes a big difference if you start from scratch / build from new, don't you think?

WOW your pool looks lovely, im really looking forward to taking a dip after work with a glass of bubbly at the side of me :-). I think we will try to buy with a pool already installed, or find a house with enough sized plot to have one built, but first choice is defeinately to have one excisting.
Do they cost much to maintain? never had one before so not sure really what chemicals you need or filters etc...
Delboy - January 14, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
Angela, this may answer some of your questions.
http://www.planning.sa.gov.au/go/building/...ing-pool-safety If not, post again :D
Mcphee, I haven't spent one Cent on my pool yet except for the electric bill to run the pumps, don't think the bills increased that much. anyway money well spent IMO.
May have to buy a bag of salt before summers over.
