Hi sharon
We went in November and had booked a beach shack on the beach front. I will not name the place or recommend (sp) as not very good too say the least we came home a day early. There is nothing really to do there but fishing and swim in the sea. Most people just go there for a relaxing weekend away. Sorry not much help am I. It is a beautifull place but nothing to do.
Julia

Fancy renting your own island for a holiday?
We have stayed on Troubridge Island just a short boat ride from Edithburgh on Yorkes. Rates include your transfers by boat to and from the island.
Contact Chris and Judy Johnson, the caretakers on 08 8852 6290 for more details or have a look at this link...

We used to stay in Port Broughton when Jon's Uncle and Aunt lived there. We used to love it there, just to get out of Adelaide and drive a couple of hours to get away from it all. There isn't much to do there apart from 2 pubs. There is a caravan park at both ends, one that has dogs the other one doesn't.
One place we would recommend going to and staying at is Moonta Bay - its beautiful there with a lovely beach, a pub and a few cafes.

Moonta Bay Caravan park (Cabins available), right on beach, onlt 2.5 hours drive as it is at the top end.
Not been further down the peninsula yet so that it the only recommendations I have!

Port Vincent is beautiful. Just a couple of pubs, a mini-mart and fish & chip shop. Two caravan parks with cabins and a beach for the kids.

I would redommend Moonta or port hughes. There is more things to do there. If you truly want to get away from it all. Lower yorkes is fantastic. But camping there is really roughing it and there really is nothing to do but fish, swim, surf and relax.
Innes national park, Lower yorkes, is beautiful. It has some amazing coastline, beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. In the park you are pretty much guaranteed to see wild roos, emus, lizards and if you are going to see a snake anywhere u will see one here. Well at least quite a few squished ones.
Where ever you go too on yorkes you will have a good time. Unless you are expecting to be able to go shoping while you are there. There are no big malls. You can food shop and there a cute little places to find knick-nacks, but apart from that the towns are very country.

I'll second Port Hughes. Empty beach, nothing to do but swim and sleep. Pefect for small kids.... The Port Hughes Tavern right opposite the boat ramp serves great food. We stayed in Wallaroo which was OK, but not very pretty, due to the cement works. Kadina seemed to be a busy little town, with everything you need. (that includes a dentist, which I needed for raging toothache...$316 later) All in all if you want a relaxing break you cannot go wrong. If you want roller coasters try the Gold coast!
