Car tax is 'Rego' or registration and includes 3rd party personal injury insurance. I'm sure you will find the link in the motoring Links section. If you choose to add further insurance you can do so in the same way as in England.
It would be good to get current costs so we can move this thread to FAQ for reference in a few days so please, post all the info you can on here :)

That's a good shout.
There must be someone out there who has the whole list - leccy/water/shopping/fuel/phone etc.. for say, a one month period.
Any info greatly received.
cheers

I think how ever much detail you go into on this the answer will eb the same and that is:-
No cheaper than the UK overall.
Probably more expensive than you expected it to be.

You'll find everyone is vastly different in how much they spend / use, especially in terms of electricity (some people have bills in the mid $100's a quarter, others have been over $1,000. :sign68:
Going through my file these are the average monthly costs.
Rent : $1,000
Phone : Basic Telstra rental $19.95. Calls about $10.
Electricity : Standing Charge $9.70. Usage average over last 3 months $38.
Gas : Standing Charge $13.70. Usage $17.50
Internet Access : $49.90
Mobiles : Average $30 each
Water : $25
Car Insurance : $30
Contents Insurance : $45
Petrol : Average fill up each week about $50
Hope it helps.

I still reckon I do all my household shopping on $250 per week - that's food, toilet rolls, washing powder, etc for a family of 4.
We have just had the first quarterly electricity bill in at our new house, for just over $300. This includes running a pool pump every day. The house is all electric and we have only run heating or cooling very occasionally in that time.

We had our electricity bill yesterday, it's with Tru Energy it's $221.05, thats from 18th Oct-17th Jan.Everthing is electric except the water which is gas. I'll have to fish out my other bills. :D

Water bills... What are they then?
You asked about rego costs - because of the inclusion of third party insurance, it differs with the vehicle, but as a guide (remember this is the same as Tax and basic insurance in the UK) for 12 months:
4 cylinder saloon: $564
6 Cylinder: $654
V8: $736
Hope that helps

One thing to point out....basic 3rd party insurance in the UK would cover all the claimants costs, here the basic Rego doesn't. (or so I have been told). I believe Rego covers medical and personal injury cover only. Additional insurance is necessary to cover any 3rd party car damage etc...
For instance, if I crash into another vehicle, at fault and held liable, if I only have Rego and no additional insurance, then I will be responsible for the repair/replacement, etc of the other party's loss. Which if you run into a 1 day old 4WD could be costly.
