Title: Can anyone recommend a car mechanic?
Description: ...or are you the (wo)man I need??
Elaine - August 12, 2004 12:36 AM (GMT)
Just thought it's worth checking on here - I need to get 2 cars serviced and one of them is dead on the drive at the moment with a flat battery so ideally a mobile mechanic.
Can you recommend anyone or do I have to do the pin in the yellow pages trick?

Bob and Nicki - thanks for the phone calls and advice!
I rang a Ford dealer and they told me on the phone how to get rid of the spanner symbol from the dash so I can advertise it for sale and save the $384 they would have charged me for the service :o :P
The RAA came out to the Pajero and pronounced the alternator the source of my troubles there, so it's booked into Isaac's Auto Electrics on Sturt road for this and a service now - I shall report back when it's done on how it all went, but Isaac's was recommended both by one of hte mums at the school, and by the RAA guy so that seemed like a good start.
So, progress... just need to see whether I can get the Pajero to start now, to actually get it down there  Of course it started first time for the RAA guy but he was dubious about it having enough juice left to start it again. It's been sitting in the sun all afternoon so :sign03: otherwise I shall be trying to remember which box the jump leads are in....

Andy - I've had advice from an Aussie friend that "MAC" - Mobile Auto Care - is worth using. Apparently they have a call out fee then charge by the hour after that.
Anyway, by the time you get this Pajero we'll have it all sorted out for you won't we :D

....reccommendations coming thick and fast now - my landlord recommends Brighton Service Centre in Byre Road, Somerton Park.

Any follow up on the jobs front?
Elaine - August 12, 2004 06:03 AM (GMT)
No movement on the jobs front as yet... nothing in yesterday's paper to apply for either :( Ah well, you never know, something may come of it in a little while even if it's not immediate.

I called MAC a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe just how much they charged. It was $110 call out plus $85 for every 45 minutes after that. All I wanted was a coolant hose fitted (I had the hose myself). Ex hubby did the job for a cup of tea!
