Title: Dogs and rented accomodation

Hi Anyone

I wonder if anyone can tell me if there are any bans on taking dogs into rented accomodation. We would like to rent for at least two years.

We are currently renting and have a dog and a cat. Not all rentals allow pets, but there is a fair few who do. It certainly wont prevent you finding somewhere to live, just might narrow your options.
We are very lucky. Our landlord lives next door to us and just so happens he adores our dog!!

I rent and have a dog, and other pets. I had a special clause written into the lease to allow this.

Some places will negotiate about pets, and some will only allow a cat for instance. It will usually say in the ads whether pets are allowed.

Gee!
I'd be in trouble!
We've got 3 cows, 3 sheep, with lambs . . . one being bottle fed, about 20 "chooks" (hens), 1 mean rooster, 1 dog.

Glad you said that as we have been having a look at what's available and not one of them allows pets! :(

We have two cats...

 so glad I read this section I was paniking as also looked at loads of property but none would accept pets we have a 17 month old boxer. :dancing dog:

So there are ways and means of doing it then? do you suggest waiting until we arrive or is it possible to do it before we leave? :happy45: I was looking at trying to get the meet and greet accomodation in the first instance then by the time that expires or before the dog would be here? am i right? how long will it take for her to come over and how long will she be in quarentine? all this is so confusing!!
thanks

hi Candice

If you're travelling from UK then quarantine is 30 days. We have already been thinking about this (and have a looooooooong way to go yet!) I think we'll probably do the meet and greet until we can actually look at the properties "in the flesh" so to speak as would hate to take one from the details and then find it's in a dodgy area/ on a main road / next to a train line etc etc etc.

I think it should be straightforward getting the dog over, they just fly out so probably takes same time as people's flights.

It is a worry though isn't it..?

Jan who incidentally has just text me to say they are now on the way to the airport has got a dog and I know she is going into rental in the Glenelg area. If you look back on the posts you may find an entry about this from her.

The thought of the cats flying over and not being able to see them for a month is more upsetting than the thought of leaving people behind in the UK! :(

(I know you can visit them but I probbaly wont as it will be too hard to leave them again and might confuse them)

This is where the meet and greet is really going to be handy for us as they allow pets.
Having said that after Lauras scare the other day when they said there was none available I'm really not sure what we would do if that happened? :(

I suppose we would have to find a rental acommodation straight away to be able to move in before they all came out of quarantine.

Still we'll have to cross that bridge when and if we come to it.
