Title: School fees

amanda - August 19, 2004 01:56 PM (GMT)
as we are applying to come on a student visa, i have to pay for my childrens; education. according to the International student website, the fees for years 8-12 are $15,000 per year. this seems rather steep. does anyone know if this is right or am i looking at the wrong thing?

Depends on what school - private or public, and what year your child is in. You can pay anything from a few hundred dollars to thousands for each year.

Hi Amanda
Yes it will be quite a lot. The 'few hundred' is for those with PR. Try a PM to Tracey of Tracey&Wayne as that's the way she's doing it!

the reason i thought that $15,000 was rather alot is because WA charge $7500, and QLD $8,000
You would have thought that SA would be cheaper as they seem to be trying to encourage people to go there.

Hi again Amanda,

We have already emailed each other, but I thought I'd post for the benefit of anyone else who wanted to know.

As an international student who is bringing school age children you have to have them enrolled into school and send a confirmation of enrolment with your student visa application.

You pay $3600 per child anually for Dependent Tuition fees, and they can go to any state school, subject to zoning restrictions (the same as everyone else).

I had to pay 6 months up front to get my visa.

The website address for the Department of Education and childrens services is;

DECS

Good Luck,

Tracey :thumbs up:

Sorry folks but I'm getting confused with the fees.
Do we have to pay these fees if we go over on a permanent Visa or are they only for temporary visa's. We have a two year old so plenty of time but it's nice to know.
Also is this the same for Medicare 'cos that's confusing too.
We were hoping to go on an Independent Skilled Visa but may end up on State Sponsor so trying to weigh up the pro's and con's ie how much it's gonna cost.

Chris
