I saw this in the Daily Mail today . Thought it might be a good topic to debate on
;)
"Britain has only 1% of the worlds population but 20% of its CCTV cameras.
We are a nation under constant surveillance from big brother -one camera for every 14 people as well as other intrusive technology.
There are times when that might be helpful when catching criminals .Other countries dont seem to need it though. No its clear that the people who are running Britain are obsessed with spying on us." :ph43r:

Personally i think the more the better , id go as far as compulsary D.N.A. testing when the heal prick is done when a child is new born ,and finger printing on full time school entry!! .
Contriversial i know but we are all born innocent .
Think how easier it would be to catch a criminal for a burglery or a nasty murder or rape , first offence , not having to wait until several more crimes are commited .and they slip up.
Play nicely now peeps :D

if so, would it mean that babys would beep like checkout products in supermarkets when taken from the post natal maternity ward?

and would then wards have special offers....you know: you buy one...you get one free...

Has anyone ever seen a job ad for someone to watch the CCTV's? I'd love to know who is watching. We have quite a few in Adelaide, especially in the CBD, but I've never seen an ad that says 'do you like to watch?'

Having loads of CCTV cameras, DNA testing, microchipping, national ID cards etc... shouldn't bother anyone who is'nt thinking about commiting a crime!
Then you have the Human rights protesters.... I wonder if they would think it was a good idea if they were victims of a crime which the offender would be caught for through this technology?

Coombsie :)

I guess it's ok if it's purely for crime prevention (and if it works........innocent people do still sometimes get convicted)

however, I think what people worry about is how the technology might be used in the future........Think 1984, v for vendetta, etc.....in some parts of the world, these tactics are used to ensure that democracy is stifled. Places like Zimbabwe/North Korea etc will love this kind of stuff

Once the technology is there.....it's difficult to remove
