Title: IRANIAN KIDNAP
Description: right or not quite...

chris&sarah - March 28, 2007 07:11 PM (GMT)
Well the Iranians have captured 15 British citizens.

They have had them for a week plus and it has been proved today they were taken well inside iraq's waters.

What do you think the British Government should be doing to free these people?

More...... or are they doing it right.....

they could perhaps send them to a nice campsite in Cuba, and hold them for five years without trial..........

personally i would launch a massive and ruthless air interdiction campaign, followed by a land offensive to sieze all their oil.
topple the head of state, because he's evil, and give the americans contracts to rebuilt the shattered infrastructure.
then afer a few years give up and withdraw, leaving a power vacuum, and let the country consume itself.

irrespective of what he may or may not have done........to be held captive for five years, tortured (sorry...extraordinary rendition.....sounds much better),denied legal process, basic rights etc etc is not on.

two wrongs do not make a right

I am not saying it was right what what done to him but his lawyers were not in a hurry to get him out, just look at the amount of delays they made.

I do agree ( that makes a change) on the fact of denial of proper legal system and rights..........but what really bugs me , is the fact that he is almost a cult figure here  .Is he going to come to oz and then be released on human rights...............like the ones Blair got back " to serve their sentence in UK".

Liam has to do a media study on his case soon............and I just happened to read and editorial in the advertiser yesterday, and it was the truest thing that ive read in an ozzy paper( iripped it out for reference)......The crux of the matterwas...............hes not a hero, shouldnt come home a hero, hes pleaded guilty to a serious crime!

anyway could argue this one ....on and on.......................

mm, I suspect, he would have confessed to terrorism, the shooting of JFK and the kidnap of Shergar if it meant being able to sleep with the lights off. I also wonder if your memory might play tricks when you have 10000 volts running through your family jewels.

The other thing, is how this serves as an example of "proper" conduct when dealing with prisoners. Is Iran now perfectly within it's rights to hold and torture the British servicemen....they were in Iranian territory, part of a gang who have threatened the country with aggressive acts. Did they present a clear and present danger to the Iranian people.
If the most "civilised" country in the world accepts imprisonment without charge, torture, and denial of rights....how can there be complaints when other countries do it.

I also found the media take interesting..........one day golden haired child, next day spawn of the devil
