Probably true, did you hear about the almost riots to get Stella Mcartney's new range of clothes in Melbourne - all sold within an hour. There were hints on how to get what you wanted when they came here in the 'tiser.

Went to Target in the city last week, a couple of weeks after they had arrived and the racks were still bursting - reckon they will be on sale soon :D

Excellent - I'll be keeping my eyes open for the "Sale" signs then....

Does that mean that Sydneysiders are slappers, Melburnians fashion victims and Adelaideans frugal? :ph43r:

I can remember when we first arrived being actually "shocked" and surprised by the bizarre fashion sense of Adelaide folk . I had never seen such "bad" hair styles or strange combinations of outfits (especially in the city ) I remember longing for stylish clothes, and shopping in Europe.
Now I dont even notice it , I actually fit right in and am looking forward to shopping in my flanellette pyjamas and ugg boots come winter time ;) Love Target and sale shopping !!

It's the shoe thing that worries me most!

Having lived in Adelaide in my youth and having visited since, fashion does not really occur to them - especially posh shoes which are my weakness.

On the upside, Craig is looking forward to a wardrobe of singlets, shorts and thongs - and never having to wear a shirt & tie again! (W,C&F's obviously)

I love my uggs ive had them for 4 years now and there a bit , well a lot tatty, and faded.
I forgot that they are made in Aus.
How much are they out there?
I know that they are dead ugly (is that why there called uggs?) but so comfy and i'd like to buy some when we come over for our recky in September.

So can anyone help?

Bev :D

Same here!!

Although have to say there is the odd persons dress sense that is really shocking!! :o But now most of it looks ok to me, which is a worry!! I wondered if when we go back to the UK for a holiday, people would look at what we are wearing and wonder what happened!! :D :lol2:

Bev, you can buy uggs in most of the dept stores (Big W, K-Mart etc) quite cheaply ($20 to $30) but they are pale imitations of the real thing. The best I've found are from the ugg boot stall in the Brickworks, $60 for a standard pair, and made from real sheepskin with lovely thick linings.

Sounds good to me Stevo :cool shake:

Thanks for that .
Are the UGGS at the Brickworks the real thing then , and the ones at big W fakes?
Or are they a copy make ?
$60 is still cheap if there real , where abouts is the Brickworks?
We are over in Adelaide next week for a couple of weeks and I want to pick some up .

At least everyone wears shoes here.

First time I went shopping in Rocky (Qld) people were out shopping bare foot!!!!

And my big pet hate is thongs (flip flops). There is nothing wrong with wearing them to the beach, but to wear them out................?

I personally don't get on with thongs, the 'post' bit always rubs between my toes and I feel the need to grip them with my toes when I walk (gives me cramp) and being totally flat make my legs ache too

Putting all these points aside they actually make good sense in Australia. Wearing shoes makes you hot (the kids used to take off their shoes and socks to cool down at school during story/quiet time with the airconditioner on) But conversely wearing no footwear outdoors gets you painfully burnt skin on the soles of your feet <_<

The thong is the perfect compromise :chuckle: and quick to get on and off.

...and inexpensive, saw some today (basic models) for $5. Most womens summer footwear is either thong or 'slide' in design.

The wearing of them in most situations doesn't look weird to me now....although I can still spot the occassional 'POMS' with their socks and sandles  Mind you I never got 'sandle foot' disease in the U.K :sign68:

In general I find the casual approach to clothes quite refreshing, although up here people do seem a little biy more 'turned out' even for grocery shopping :( I fitted in fashion wise in Adelaide
