Title: Where do you buy your kids shoes from?
Toon Williams - April 20, 2007 03:03 PM (GMT)
Just wondered as having a few problems getting shoes for my 3 year old!!
He got very wide feet and always had to get them from Clarks in the UK, (he got a H fitting) here I looked at Clarks in Myer and they are $80-$90 which is MASSIVE amount of money!! :sign68:
Been in a few shoe shops at TTP and they only measure length not width, apart from school shoes!! Which makes no sense to me at all!!
So just wondered if anyone found a good shoe shop and if so where!!
EDIT - Just found thread suggesting the below, and yes really nice shoes, but look at the price!! At 3 they meant to have feet checked every 6-8 weeks, we wont be able to afford to eat at that rate!!!!

Hi there ,
just bought Isaac a new pair of school shoes from Clarks, in England.
Plain black nothing fancy size 2 £36.99.
Dont know how that compares?
Both of our boys had very wide feet but as theve got older theyve thinned out and can fit comfortably into cheaper shoes now .
But i always get Clarks for school as they wear them all day, and i feal they get there monies worth.

Got to agree with RnB, $90 doesn't seem any more excessive than here for kids' shoes. I've always spent more on them than I have on myself - I tend to get mine from Hornsea Freeport, or other designer outlets. I don't suppose there's anything like that in SA?

Yes sure it does seem like the same/similar price if you still in the UK!!
To be honest before we arrived we thought EVERYTHING was very cheap, and it is all the time you revert it back to the Pound, BUT believe me when you arrive and start to earn Ozzie Dollars it isnt quite the same!!
I think that things are VERY expensive here compared to the UK, if you compare the wages here and the other bills you have to pay out for etc etc!! My OH is earning nearly half what he earnt in UK!!
I have two kids and always went to Russell & Bromley or Clarks for their shoes, so have no problem paying for good shoes, but it is much more expensive here!!

Hi,
Just paid $110 each for my kids new winter shoes. OH shoes were $240
Yes they are similar in price to the uk.
But how many used to scoff at the price of Clarkes shoes but went there any way!In the UK the Kids child benefit paid for the shoes. here we have nothing(SIR VISA and all that, not that I'M moaning)
If you are perm visa you get this allowance for the kids(thats what is for) and surely this will help out with shoes, clothes, activities etc

I'm glad our kids feet have slowed down .
At least thier shoes actually get a chance to wear out now .
Our kids are 10 ,10 and 12.
Infact Isabels complaining that shes had her school shoes for ages , she has, and there actualy wearing away at the bottom.
Ill have to get Ralph to stick an old piece of tyre on the soles! ;)
Jacob our eldest on the other hand is a size 9 (adult) so although his last shoes were clarks, maybe his next will be from High and Mighty :sign68: (a giant outsize mens shoe shop)
His dads an 11 and im an 8 so it looks like he might get a lot bigger yet. :(

I get my 6 yr olds (with wide feet) from Shoe Works at Woodcroft shopping centre. They do Clarks and also have other makes of trainers with wide fittings. Just got some trainers for $50.

Get my daughters from Fairleys shoex in Blackwood, they often have sales and 2 for 1 offers!
Her set before last of Clarks were $25, but last time I had to go to ollies in North Adelaide and pay top wack :sign68:
My son refuses to wear shoes now and will only where trainers and they are not much cheaper!
I wouldn't say Clarks are anymore expensive here than in the UK - but I will be honest I didn't buy them in the UK as I had quite a few dodgy fitting experiences with them, we tended to get hush puppies.

Have you tried Betts in Marion Shopping centre? I would compare them to Clarks (UK) in terms of price and service. I do agree with others, that good quality shoes are expensive here when you are earning Auzzis dollars - plus for us, the first two years have cost us more in terms of setting ourselves up again - we were getting to the stage in the UK where we could afford to buy good quality shoes and clothes. Here most of our money has been spent on our house, or buying this and that (which we mostly had in the UK). Eventually we hope to be at the same stage we were in the UK here.
Also we have found my younger son wearing shoes he would not have worn in the UK - such as thongs (flip flops) and ugg boots.

i take it you've looked in Betts kids in the Plaza? Or there is Ollie Ashintons on Melbourne Street down by the City.
I've been going on E-Bay in the Uk for Hayleys shoes. I take her to Betts and get her feet measured then look on UK E-Bay. Her feet are very narrow, only C fitting. the most I've paid is £5 for shoes that have hardly been worn and £10 for brand new. Even with postage it works out a lot cheaper. Some of the second hand ones don't even look like they've been on a pair of feet.

Don't know how much their shoes are, and have to admit I've never been in there myself - but there is a shoe shop that has been recommended to me down near Newton (take the road that goes past Target - can't remember the name sorry - and it's on the left hand side.
Bit nearer for you than Marion!!

Thanks for all the replies, looks like I will be busy next week flying around trying out all these new shopping centres!! :bouncy:
My husband said I should just try tieing two boxes to his feet with elastic bands as they would be wide enough and long enough and he thinks that anything goes here in Oz!!??

Go to Betts at Harbour Town they sell Clarks in there and are usually a lot cheaper. Bought my son some sandals for $20.

They have a buy 1 pair - get 2nd pair half price offer on now. Very useful if you have two (kids that is not feet). I know the other Shoex shops also do the same offer, there are ones in Woodcroft, O'Halloran Hill and on Goodwood Road to my knowledge.

Fairleys in Blackwood is one of the old fashioned good types of shoe shops where they know how to measure feet. They also don't stock junk school shoes, so if you take the kids there there's no temptation to get anything "fashion" which will ruin their feet.
I bought an excellent pair of school shoes for my son at a shop at Harbour Town a few months ago. One of the first pairs that not only fits perfectly but also still look virtually new - and that's practically a miracle with my boy! I think it must have been Betts, because I did see Clarks shoes there. They were $35. :D

I managed to get shoes for my kids the week before that offer began. However, being the lovely family run business that it is, they gave my that deal anyway! :D Trainers for Max and cute pink leather boots for Ava - $75 for the pair.
We always look there before trecking into Marion. Usually I don't need to bother with Marion and it is good to support local businesses.

I just bought Toby some really nice Osh Kosh shoes at David Jones in Marion. They were about $75. I guess when you convert to £, it's not really that different?
kirkbygirl - April 24, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
Pairs at Harbour Town also have Clarkes shoes + Hush Puppies.
