Title: Free internet use

chris and farideh - April 22, 2007 09:52 AM (GMT)
Hi,

I'm sure there some many new migrant in Adelaide, who have still living in their caravan parks, short trem rentals, who find having use of internet connection is so important for finding jobs & property.
well you can get 1 hour free use in any state library, but if you have laptop, just go into the library ask for passward & ask to set up your laptop for wireless connection, then you can have up to 4 hours use on your laptop for free, each day as long as you stay within the range of the library.
or you can go and ask coffeeshops if they have wireless connection & ask them for instrauctions on how to set it up,all you have to do is buy coffee, you can sit there as long as you want to use it for free.

here is one coffee shop we found you can do that is in Glenelg, at the end of Jetty road, in the square between Mcdonald & post office called cibo.
or look for reception in the hot spot area of your rental & hope to pick up free reception, like we have.

hope other people can add other hot spots to the list.

Excellent info.

You might also want to take the laptop into the CBD where you can browse the web for free thanks to the Internode City wide free WiFi access.

Take a look here for specific locations.

We joined the Library at West lakes when we arrived .We used our lap top there with no limit. Which was great .Also found if you sit in Hungry Jacks next door it still works.

This is really helpful as my rental does not have the internet yet...I am going to ask if I can fit a phoneline and interne when i get there.......can't imagine they will mind. I am going to buy a laptop in Adelaide or maybe even singapore...advice welcome.

Now we have internet here in the UK with a modem...I know this may sound daft but I will say it anyway but how do you do the wireless thing!!!

I dont actually own a wifi enabled laptop but I would assume you can enable it on your laptop by software. Have a look through your menu options:- Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications--->wifi provider.

Now for receiving a signal from these wifi nodes you just have to be within a certain distance to receive a signal, probably something like 50ft...

Woohoo free internet

Now Singapore would be cheaper to buy a laptop but what if you have a problem later on, it's a long way to take it back to the shop. (Unless there is a similar branch in Adelaide). Just thought I'd mention that, as a mate of mine bought some very cheap branded MP4 players in Singapore with full 12 month warranty but one of them stoppped working after a few weeks back in the UK. The others are still working ok.

Hope that's ok Countdown, I'm sure someone out there may be able to add more.

I think I should add this page as I'm not too sure or convinced on the security of Wifi networks.

What the link to the page (which does take some time to load) or the actual internode?

Actual internode, we spent a very stressful afternoon in Rundle Mall on internode. It was very slow, kept dropping out etc etc. OH would be able to be more technical about it. Anyway, it wasn't worth the trip into the city.

Thanks Louise I have been wondering about how good these metropolitan wifi networks are and I think you have answered it for me. Have you tried one of the smaller cafes yet?

Off to bed now, but would be very interested to find out more about this 'free internet access'.

Cheers

Eddie.

Hi
If you buy a toshiba or HP laptop they have a worldwide warranty.
Toshiba is the better brand, because you can get a world wide extended warranty it you buy it from them direct, plus it cost less than the one you get instore.
