Title: Things to do - Brownies

candiceno1 - August 25, 2004 04:51 PM (GMT)
;) ;)
I know PP has been posting some threads regarding things to do so I would like some info on brownies for when we get there for my daughter. Obviously nothing can happen until we arrive but it would be nice if there was one where some of our girls could get together if they want to continue brownies in Oz as I know Kennadie deffo does

Just did a search for you. Didnt find much about Brownies, but theres a girl guide presence in South Australia and it appears they join from age 5 upwards. Heres a link. Maybe you could email them and ask about Brownies.

There's a big Scout movement too - for boys and girls. They can join the Joey Scouts at 5 or 6 years old. I was a Joey leader a few years back - was great fun.

My daughter did guides for a while, but found it a bit boring, (a bit "girlie", lots of singing, craft, etc)

She's now in cubs, and finds it much more interesting, (running round in the woods, making campfires etc)

The scout link is http://www.sa.scouts.com.au/main.html

My son has insisted on finding a scouts that doesn't happen to have girls (they are all nominally mixed) and my daughter has refused to have anything to do with a group that includes boys

I was a Pixie too and I was a sixer. (Suited me down to the ground being able to tell people what to do - although I have matured considerably)

I can remember having the group dress as the Nolan Sisters and doing the whole "I'm in the mood for Dancing" routine to get our Entertainers Badge. CRINGE CRINGE CRINGE.

Did I just tell people that.

OMG

Hi Candice

My daughter was also in the Girl Guides for about 1 year and like Andy's daughter was getting bored. She is now in the Joeys (6-8 yrs) and loves it and the mix of boys and girls doesn't seem to bother her. The other good thing about scouts is that when they go on camps etc Dad's can go with them, whereas in Guides its more of a female thing.

Good luck in making your decision!

Hi

I was a Gnome and a sixer. Did you have to look in a mirror and then jump over a toadstool when uou did your promise ........... Or am I imagining that. It was a LITTLE while ago!

"Twist me and turn me and what do you see ????? Make any sense to any other brownies!! :loopy:

Oh no, you've brought back a memory now! We all had to take in things to decorate the mirror and make it look like a little pool in the woods. All the others took in flowers and bunny rabbits, bits of moss and leaves and things like that. I used to take in my collection of rubber creepy crawlies
