Title: Cr@@@y TV!!
Tyke - May 8, 2007 09:23 AM (GMT)
Is it just me or is the TV in Adelaide becoming a lot worse recently?.
Seems to be a lot of repeats mixed in with new series on free tv - as in the new House series.
Foxtel is racking up a heck of a lot of repeats now as well + ads are creeping in all over!!! What am I paying for?????
I suppose we are watching more TV now the nights are darker.
Must drink more beer to numb this......
Grr!
:crying:
CatWithClaws - May 8, 2007 09:38 AM (GMT)
It's all this rubbish Reality TV stuff - cheap and nasty TV at its worst!! Dancing with Wannabes, Big Brother (AGAIN yawwwwwwwwwnnnnn), c-Rate 'Stars' Show How Badly They Can Sing, etc etc - or the good old Quiz Shows (aka 'how desperate are the Aussie public for their 15 minutes of fame' or 'more work for hasbeens whose agents decide they need some small screen exposure'?)
I do like Robin Hood on ABC on Sundays though (good old BBC!), Greys Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, and The Chasers War. Apart from that, stick to Foxtel Sport (The Red's got THRASHED by the Blues yesterday!, and the Bike GP was quite fun) or of course, there's always plenty of Simpsons on!
The absolute worst one though (and this is probably on Foxtel too) is the Autopsies Live (or whatever its called) - still have nightmares about them using a ham slicer to slice up some poor soul's brain the other night....

Know what you mean Diane about the autopsy thing. Even though he says that the person he is "butchering for medical science" has given their permission for this to happen to them, I can,t get my head around the fact that this person was once alive and kicking. I mean, who says that he got their permission in the first place???? AND, he freaks me out because he wears that Freddie Kruger hat!! :sign68:
Last night he was taking out someones heart and lungs, and it kind of reminded me of when you take the giblets out of a chicken. YUCK YUCK YUCK

Heres me thinking this is Adelaide Brits. More like Whinging Poms.
My boss is always saying the Australian way is "Australia.... Love it or leave it!! " ;)
gonga - May 8, 2007 10:39 AM (GMT)
a useful remedy for poor tv I find is to:
1/ get an empty cardboard box
2/ cut out a screen section and appropriate the depth of the set accordingly
3/ perch said cardboard screen on a neighbours window sill.
4/ sit and watch something new everyday
coombsie - May 8, 2007 10:43 AM (GMT)
I am leaving, but not because of a few rubbish programmes. :P
I have the pleasure of looking forward to being subjected to Last of the Summer Wine, Coronation St and University Challenge. Need I go on? :(
I will say that I wont miss the adverts from here though.!!
Coombsie.
PS. Apart from the one for the soup and the microwave. Anyone else seen it?
Its a classic!!

Seen that soup one ;-) And I like the Jims Mowing Ads they show in between the footy... Oh, and the one where the kid eats the snail....
red 1 - May 8, 2007 11:40 AM (GMT)
 Yes i'm the one !!!
Have to agree Coombsie that ones a classic. You should video it and take it home before it gets shown on Tarrant tv.
sarahsmartiepants - May 8, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
I have not seen the soup in the microwave ad yet, cant think why, I watch enough TV! I must be one of the few who can find something monday to thurs to watch :o
I love the adverts too, well most of them, I'm still waiting for the Cunno Mans head to burst, especially in the one that looks like he mouths "f off" to the camera man who chucks something at him! :D
The best ad was the chewing gum/largle nipple one!
My mum was here and liked the two guys with their trousers round their ankles playing the piano. Said she was going to look out for that on Tarrant on TV.

Hi Sarah
I'm one the few, aswell. :o
I find the tv here ok, as you say, from monday to Thursday, then hubby gets to watch afl on friday. Normally doing something out on Saturday, and then you've got ugly betty, and csi on sunday.
depserate housewifes is getting better each week, watched the two of us, whilst flicking over to 50-1 last night, can't get enough of lost, although just found out that it's running until 2010 so won't really get the plot until then :( .
Can't see the problem, personally. :P

I actually miss the ads when they are not there. When else can I go get a drink, go to the loo, talk to hubby, and heaps of other things that get done during the ads? Maybe that's why I don't recall the soup in the microwave one, etc.
marco121068 - May 9, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
The answer is a PVR.
Record onto hard disk and sit down to watch programmes 20 mins after they start. By the time you get to the end you've caught up with the programme and won't have to sit through any of the ads. :D

Dunno if this is directed at me........
I do read....profusely.
But I love a couple of hours in front of the TV as well.
Sigh - May 10, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
Terrestrial TV here is rubbish IMO! However if you like
CSI 24 hours a day
Crossing Jordan
Numbers (the most ridiculous programme on the planet)
Cold case
Without a trace
Or any other American blood and guts trash you'll be happy!
However there is FOXTEL IQ which is great and allows you to bypass all the annoying adverts!
Si :D

For those considering migration on the basis of the TV schedule
http://au.tv.yahoo.com/tv-guide/index.html...ar=2007&tvrg=81might help sway the decision one way or the other

Personally I find plenty to watch but what is good is that I watch less than in the UK and have become more selective by recording and downloading. If there's nothing to watch then I have plenty of other things to do.

Tv in uk wasnt much better ;)
I heard today that that Bert bloke from family feud has a got a deal to host something else!!!!!!!!! What a dinosaur! Hes a freak show :sign68:
And what about that other dinosaur that hosts the dancing thing..................I watch just to see if he can string more than two words together without saying mmmm! or completely cocking things up!
And by the way............We all dont like reading books, just like some people dont like football, golf cricket.....or even watching TV.

Yes that is one program that I actually seem to catch most weeks - I would love to do it!
Was gutted last night that the Guidos made it back - couldn't stand them the first time they did it, although they seem to be more chilled this time!

She had really long hair and the fast pass she did was to shave off all her hair.

 I have to admit to blundering through work today due to bleary-eyedness after last night's Amazing Race ... watched it in the UK as well :love29:
LOVED the rats!
sarahsmartiepants - May 11, 2007 12:42 PM (GMT)
I know I didnt realise it was a double one,but I couldnt miss it. I dont think there has ever been one where they were so spread out. It used to be on twice a week in Uk, I was half way though watching the first one with Charla and Mirna, but missed the end as sky was disconnected :sigh:
mysnix - May 17, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
Damn those non-elimination rounds!
Nearly got the Guidos last night!! Sorry but Charla and Mirna are so doing my head in now too, they are really aggressive and then simpering the next minute - yukk!
