Title: Dentists

sean - February 20, 2004 10:41 AM (GMT)
Hello all,

Can any of you fine folks recommend a good dentist in the adelaide or barossa area, that is;

a ) not a sadist,

b ) not too expensive,

I'm not sure if this description matches any dentist known to man, but here's hoping.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Hi sean,

My hubby went to a nice dentis today, I can give you the breakdown of the treatement advised for him, but have no idea what it is!!! (not sure if he does do)

Comprehensive Oral Exam $35:30 (carried out today)

(don't know what that is but maybe ab uncomprehensive one is cheaper?)

Adhesive restoration - surf - post $133.90 (sounds expensive so must be good)

Removal of calculus (isn't that just a scrape?) $70.60

Metallic restoration 1 $107

Metallic restoration 2 $104.90

plus 1 single X-ray film $ 35.30 & 1 intra oral x ray $22.90

If you have any idea what these things mean the good luck and happy smiling

Tracey :D

I can reccomend a "ripper" of a dentist at Para Hills, i don't mean a ripper as in ripping out teeth!! Really, really good :D

sean - February 21, 2004 10:36 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the replies, lynsteve I will check out the para hills ripper  do you have his/her name?

Tracey, can you tell me the name and location of hubbys dentist? the fees dont sound too bad.

its a bit of an emergency, as I land in adelaide on wednesday, but i have some sort of infection in a tooth, thus i'm on a variety of pain killers anti inflamatories, and anti biotics, and of course borrowed time.
when i'm all doped up its fine, but when they wear off it really, really, f***ing hurts, really.
so the first thing i am after is a dentist. :(

Any other recommendations will be really appreciated.

Cheers

Sean

Hi Sean,

Waynes dentist is Seacliff Family Dental Practice,

681 A Brighton Road,
Seacliff

8298 4880.

Hi PP,

Those prices were for a treatment plan, which would basically get Waynes teeth and gums sorted out.

I don't think medicare covers any dental treatment so you would have to get extras cover, we aren't entitled to medicare but I got a quote from medibank private to cover the family for dental and they quoted me an extra $38 per month with a two month qualifying period. The dentist told Wayne that he would only get about half the cost back any way, so still trying to figure out if its worth getting the extras cover.

Hi Tracey we have just taken out extra's with Medibank Private, as we all wear glasses I thought it a wise decision especially as Charlotte's cost over $260 and she's bent the arms and scratched the lenses already after only a few months.

Tony Halstead of Wilkinson Road Para Hills, Tel 82645551, believe me he's good.

Regarding the extras cover, its well worth the money. We made the mistake a few years ago of not having it for a year. A root canal cost me nearly $600, Lynsie had one done via extras and it cost about $280. My daughter has had her brace on her teeth done should have been $2600, cost via extras $1800. So we think its worth the $10 a week.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice, three out of the four of us wear specs, so we'd definately get our moneys worth.

I'll probably get it sorted this week.

I guess from what you said there steve that we have to pay for our Kids?

Do they get any concessions? My eldest has just had a brace fitted here so that was lucky we got that sorted before coming out!!

Nick :thumbs up:

My advice would be to get as much dentistry done in the UK before you leave, because it gets real expensive here.
I could have bought a small car with the cost of my kids orthodontics!
We have extras cover with Health partners, which softens the blow somewhat, so if you are likely to need dental or opthalmic stuff....I would recommend starting cover as soon as you get here, cos lots of funds have a waiting time before you can make a claim.
I also have friends who are very disciplined and save the monthly equivalent of extras cover and keep it in the mortgage...just in case.
That might be a sensible way to go if there are no obvious eye/teeth needs at present, (though as I said....needs a lot of discipline!)
