Description: Licensing Info etc.

I have a cousin who has recently emigrated and is a bricklayer. What does he need to do to get his licence? What are the wages like? Can he work without a licence initially? Any other information would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Theresa

Hi

My husband is a bricklayer, you can work on wages and they will pay tax but you end up with about $750 a week, or you can work on an ABN but then you have to pay your own tax and save it.

At the moment my husband is doing a Tafe course so that he can get a builders license, if you do your own work without a license there is a danger that the customer will not pay you, they will pay for materials not labour.

I think here the only way to make a living is to be licenced and do your own work.

Hope that helps, that is just our experience , its a shame we weren't told about the having to have a licence to run your own business here as its been a bit of a nightmare and unexpected.

Hi,

Get him to speak to Master Builders on South Terrace Adelaide who will give him the information required plus they run the necessary courses for a fee/s.
The initial information should be free of charge.
