Title: What can I say about the area, we live.
chris and farideh - June 10, 2007 02:02 PM (GMT)
Hi Guys,
I am so happy about the area that we have been in living since we arrived from the UK, 3 months ago. I want to shout about it!! Here’s why: Today we went out for the whole day and came back to find the front door wide open. At first we thought we have been burgled, :o but of course not! Silly me forgot to pull the door behind me and close it. What a safe area in which we live, thank goodness!
Also, the schools are fantastic here, our eldest goes to Brighton Secondary School, loads people know how good Brighton is. He’s had some teething problems at the beginning, but they have been bending backwards to help him out.
My younger ones go to Paringa Park Primary School. This school is well hidden from the main road & it’s quite small. They teach French as second language & if they’re good enough, then they will teach them French one whole day per week. My daughter does music & the school recommended a music school for her and the lessons are free (except for admin & registrations, for which we paid only $20). The school also does choir (which the children right now practicing every Monday, as they have concert coming in Adelaide festival hall in September).
We wanted our children to go for swimming lessons and we were recommended a pool 5 min. from the house. The classes are so small they’re almost private lessons. In my daughter’s class there are only 3 of them and in my son’s only 2. The instructors go in the water with them, and so patient! Never ever have I ever seen such quality of teaching. :cool shake:
I hope this helps other new migrant who are looking for good area, this is the best: 2 min. walk to the beach, buses and train station close by, or you can get the tram from Glenelg. Nice clean area, no graffiti to be seen on the walls.

Hi Faridah,
Thanks for the great info. We liked the larger Brighton area so will definately be looking at Somerton Park! (If we ever get there :sign03: )

Hope all goes well with your Visa, Somerton Park is really funny little area, like our side street is Somerton Park & the other side of the road is North Brighton, but definitely is worth checking it out.
I just love it it's so close to everything, you need.

really nice to hear all is good for you.
we are wannabees just starting on the journey and this kind of comment makes us even more of a wannabee!
It was so uplifting to hear your thoughts as even though we have made up our minds, we do sometimes get the occasional "we must be mad" thoughts in our minds. sometimes (not very often) there is a negative post which makes us Q's ourselves, but thats normal aint it?
Re the schools and swim/language/music lessons etc its nice to know that needs are met- Thankyou
wishing you all the best for the future :spin:

Some friends of ours live there and have been burgled twice in 4 years plus had one car vandalised.

We live there too and love it...however our neighbours (who are English!) have had the car broken into twice, and the house across the road was burgled just after we moved in. I reckon you were just lucky, leaving your door open. Nowhere is immune to crime these days, sadly.

Paringa Primary is just about to start a major rebuilding programme. They have also 'zoned' the school as it is so popular, and was pulling kids from other Primary School areas. Di Atwa is a terrific Principal and has the children's needs as her priority. There are a fair amount of Brit kids at the school, so yours won't feel alone.
The zoning of both Paringa Primary and also Brighton High School makes this area more expensive than say, Warradale, but expect to pay over $100,000 more for the same type of house if you live on the sea side of Brighton Road.
