Just wondering about the schooling system in Adelaide. Are there such things as state and private schools just like here? Are they expensive..and also are they considered the better alternative to state education?I have looked on the web at a few state schools and they seem ok to me I was just wondering if there was a vast difference?
Oh yeah just put the house on the market today hope I'm not being premature but with the market the way it is in Dorset you never know!! :what?:

Hi Fizzbot,

Adelaide has both state and private schools, with all religiously affiliated schools being fee-paying (someone over there correct me if I'm wrong please!) That said, all schools whether private or not have annual fees.

Probably a good place to start looking is in the FAQ section under 'schools' - lots of info there.

Julia :)

Lord No!
Just me being thick and missing the obvious as usual.
Got 3 kids and just trying to suss out what is available and the differences between here and Aus.Problem is their ages 14,12 & 7 I am assuming they will be in 3 different schools.

You may well get away with just the two schools! :sign03: Once the Adelaide lot get up I'm sure you'll get some more 'on-site' info.

Hi Fizzbot
You'll get away with 2 schools. Most primaries R - 7, most high schools 8 - 12 though there are some exceptions. My 12 year old went 'up' a year into year 8, you may have to think carefully how you treat yours as it's the difference between primary and high school. My kids were both put 'up' a year ie in with kids a year older. Aus kids start at 5, uk at 4, so this means they are in with kids who've done the same no. of years at school and at roughly the same stage with school work.

Otherwise, as Julia said, go and have a good browse in the schools area - there's links to every state (they call them public!) school and a fair few private schools, plus some personal experiences on individual schools.

Happy hunting :thumbs up:

All schools are fee paying but state schools are much lower, than the private school tend to be on the high side, but its your choice, you will be able to visit schools when you arrive here, but im sure someone has an address for schools
