Although it seems obvious I must ask if you are offering tax return services?
This will be my first tax return ever and it's not so easy ...

Does everyone have to complete a tax return - we have been here since March and my OH has 2 months work history here in a PAYE type of job?

Haven't we established before that if you're here and not even got a job yet, if you are claiming centrelink benefits eg family tax allowance, you will need to fill in a tax return? Perhaps Dougie can confirm as this is only from my (notoriously unreliable) memory.... :happy45:

You still need to sign something to say you have not earned anything in the financial year (or part of). It is usually available on the same website, you must do this or other things such as child benefit won't be processed.

You have to lodge a tax return if you have had any tax witheld from Australian sourced income (ie interest income or salaried income), any form of business income (or loss), or any other income over $6000 (pro-rated over 12 months - ie been in Australia for 2 months then income over $1000).
If you do not have to lodge a return then it is still neccessary to advise the ATO - see the tax pack for the appropriate form to do so. This will suffice for FTB purposes.

How do we go about submitting a tax return? Do we get sent a form from the tax man (like in the UK)?

We did it online last year...no problems..
I think if everything is straight forward than its simple to do it yourselves.....plus there is a hotline you can ring if you are stuck.
probably would get more complicated if you are self-employed and have lots of expenses etc to claim...this is where using a specialist would be a very good idea.
But with both of us...employed...no expenses as such...except for Jon having a laundry expense he can claim for his chef whites, which is very easy to work out via the tax website.....and for me, i will be claiming the 30% out of pocket expenses childcare......it isn't that difficult...
Last year, we had more to claim for Jon.....which i still managed to do online...
