Hi Lisa,

Have you had a look at the following websites, they may be helpful...

Murray Bridge High School

General Information on Murray Bridge

....you will also find much more information available on Murray Bridge by doing a Google Search.

All the best with the research.

Thank you Jet!! :D

I had looked at the school one but I had not found the other general info site.

I notice on the school site they say for uniform denim jeans, which to me sounds a bit odd...is this normal for oz schools?

Thank you once again.

It probably is for a country school, although Gawler High allows jeans, so...yeah probably.

Found the following information with regards to dress codes on the DECS website which may answer your question....

Guidelines for school uniforms and dress codes in public schools vary from school to school.
It is advisable for parents to check with their local school about its uniform policy.
School governing councils determine the uniform policy in consultation with their school community.
The Department of Education and Children’s Services guidelines are that a school’s dress code should be practical to suit a range of physical activities and weather conditions and that it observes health, safety and decency standards.
Schools are also urged to keep costs to a minimum and take into consideration the cost to parents and caregivers of complying with the standards.
Exemption from wearing a school uniform can be sought through a written request from parents or caregivers for a variety of reasons including religious beliefs, cultural or ethnic backgrounds, because they are new students or itinerant students, because of financial hardship or due to physical injury.

Lisa, i would take a good long look at murray bridge, before doing anything.
its certainly not for everyones tastes. that said, its not without its charm.

but there do seem to be alot of ferals there. a few years ago a cat was set on fire on the grounds of the school, during school hours.

um ... no that's not what i implied.
i've not spent any significant time there for a couple of years now, but mb still does have a bit of a reputation.

someone explained to me why there was a concentration of 'dropkicks' as he put it.
i cant remember exactly, but it was something to do with a lot of housing trust residents being relocated in the area.
maybe someone knows a bit more.
thats not to generalise housing trust residents because most are good, but unemployed pretty criminals have to live somewhere.

both postal districts have an annual crime rate of around 250+ offences per 1000 people, compared to the state average of 170.
most of adelaide seems to have a crime rate less than the state average, the average is skewed by a few hot spots.
this is from memory from the office of crime stats SA. although it may be a couple of years old now.

people i know there say its not as bad as it was though, with the most notorious trouble makers being inside, walking up or moving on.
also industry is increasing there, creating more employment.
so maybe its steadily improving.

as said before i quite like the place, but its an aquired taste, and probably i wouldn't live there, although some of the outer bush properties are quite appealing, not sure of the price though.

As I work with a couple of hundred 'Bridgers" I better post my 2c worth. Its a country town, beginning to expand with the new estates quite nice, the bad press is reducing, no more ferals than anywhere else, but lots of country folk (take that how you will). The town centre is crap and if you don't like the water I'm not sure what there is to do.

If you can live that far out, 1 hour 20 mins from Adelaide, I'd be looking at the villages instead.

WOW thank you EVERYONE for your advice!!

I can say I will NOT be looking at Murray Bridge again

It's just I had seen a nice house on the internet and wondered....now wondering finished!

We would like to live in the country and we have been looking at various suburbs, can anyone please advise on; Stirling, Crafers, Bridgewater, Aldgate and then out of the hills....McLaren Vale and McLaren Flat. Or even suggest somewhere nice with a good high school, low crime rate and good scenic views around. We like properties with character and larger gardens.

We are happy with a commute into the city as my husband is never working in one place anyway.

What would I do without this yellow screen???!!! :)

Any help is very much appreciated!!

Love
Lisa x
