Hi
Does any know how you go about getting British Qualifications (Electrical) transferred to the Australian qualification equivalent? ie, HNC, ONC. Has anyone had experience doing this? Thought it might help when applying for jobs to have an Australian equivalent on resume.
Thanks
Dawn
Hi Dawn,
I have an HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering which I got while doing my apprenticeship. One of the Recruitment Agencies recommended I put the Australian Equivalent on my resume as the average Australian employer wouldn't know what an HNC was. I used the attached website to get the equivalent. (Diploma)
https://www.australianaustralia.com/page/Of...s_standards/353Just out of interest, what was the trade apprenticeship that went with the HNC? My apprenticeship was as a Technician, so as well as the trade apprenticeship the TRA are looking for 7 years hands on experience before they issue an A-class licence. The A-class licence + wiring rules are an absolute must if you want to work on the tools as an electrican or technician. Don't mistake the TRA recognition for visa purposes with the TRA application for your A-class licence. Two totally different things with different requirements based on your qualifications and experience as I found out. If your apprenticeship was as a full blown electrician it's not an issue.

This is not necessarily relevant to the electricians, but when we first arrived, we were told that we had to attend the usual lectures on fire safety etc... and one of the orientation lectures was on MECS (migrant employment consultancy service based in TAFE SA in the city). They were most helpful in transfering my BSc from the UK into the equivalent over here (ironically exactly the same name!), but gave me a signed certificate to show to potential employers to prove the point. Most helpful in that sense, but others like how to write a CV was a little unnecessary!
As a recent migrant myself, this was a free service and I just had to make an appointment and say what my skill was and they set me up with the right person to see me.
Hope that is a bit helpful,
Daisy
Thanks everyone for your replies.
