Title: Pet Hates!
Description: slow drivers etc

Maccaroo - August 6, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
Okay everyone has pet hates what are they?

One of mine is people who drive at 45/50 in a 60k zone, holding up the traffic, there are those that say the limit is 60 which means you can drive upto 60 there is no law that says you must drive at 60, that is so true but if you want to drive at 45/50 then find a bl***y road that the limit is only 50, believe me there are plenty of them, if I am driving to or from work then I like to drive at 60 in a 60k zone or 50 in a 50k zone .....................

Another one is and I am sure I am not alone................... people that dont speak English. Australia is an English speaking country and if you move here to live then surely you must make an effort to speak the language of the country that you live in. Why do people live in this county for 40 years and not speak the language?

Another question is how did they get into the country? They all cannot be refugees surely, when I applied to emigrate we had to have a good knowledge of written and spoken English and how do they pass their driving tests if they cannot speak English.................................

I hate when I am 3 cars back from the lights and the first person takes sooo long to pull away by time its my go the light has changed
This usually happens from Majors onto south and then back from Black onto south :(

You'll probably find they've been flashed or caught in a radar trap recently :ph43r:

One of mine is the drivers who brake to a near standstill before taking a left or right hand junction. The ones with the big flash "performance" cars are the worst. They're on a par with the ones that don't use the filter lanes to make their turn <_<

Drivers aside, am I the only one who has a problem with the red arrow on the traffic lights? Many's the time I've be sat waiting to turn right on a red arrow when there's nothing coming the other way. I've had it before that they lights have gone through 1 or 2 cycles before the red arrow finally goes out

And I wonder how much faster the traffic would flow on the major routes in/out of the city if they actually sequenced the lights better? They seem to have the same priority settings for the morning and evening "rush hours"

Maccaroo - August 6, 2007 06:00 AM (GMT)
Yes they have just put a red arrow on the right turn onto Henley Beach Road from Port Road, it would go 2/3 cycles before a green arrow, so we have started turning right the street before!

redwhalesharks - August 6, 2007 06:53 AM (GMT)
Has anyone else found the driving abilities of the Australians somewhat scary? They all seem to drive up each others bum......why drive to so close to the car in front? I guess this is why so many people have accidents, eh? :what?:

My pet hate is people that tailgate and don't overtake me, when I'm driving the speed I want to, and not the speed they want to.
I normal drive slower and slower just to annoy them.

Beaner - August 6, 2007 09:47 AM (GMT)
I'm afraid I too drive at whatever speed I feel comfortable at, and if it bothers you, get around me, if you can. I'm never in any rush to get to work, and I always want to arrive home safely.

I too would like to arrive at work safely, sometimes the streets are not suitable to be able to overtake, I am not a tailgater as I don't like it done to me, but at 6.00 am in the morning I expect to be able to travel at the speed limit, I am not a speed freek I dont speed........ but just travelling at the correct speed limit would be great! ;)

So true, oh so true. Commodores really are crap cars when you think about it compared to some other things but is like the model to have here.

I hate the people that do 70 in a 100. THATS JUST INSANELY SLOW AND UNSAFE.

kezzagal - August 6, 2007 03:50 PM (GMT)
My pet hate isn't at all driving related.
My pet hate is the WHOLE OF BL :sign53: DY CROYDON South London

If there was a smilie holding a knife or gun i would have added that at the end of the last sentence. That may give you some idea of what it's like here :ph43r:

When we took our test there were three ummm non white people there sitting with interpreters :loopy:
Its a good thing the give way signs are triangles and the speed limits are Numerical <_<

My pet hate
Drivers that jump into the safe distance I leave between me and the car in front with out indicating.
It happened three times on the way home from work yesterday making me drop back every time.
If I had dropped back any further I would have been back at work :D

Must be very difficult..........

I have a colleague, very active in the deaf community, she describes the experience of deaf people learning to drive...........it must be so hard for both the driver and instructor

I have so many pet hates when it comes to driving in Australia,
1) No one seems to know that the left lane is for overtaking, NOT sunday driving.
2) Weaver birds that have no concept of safe driving distances
3) People who jump into my safe distance leaving me to drop back, and back and back
4) the racers that cannot take off from a traffic light for at least 15 seconds after the green light, even though theyve been edging forward for the whole time its been on red
5)those mad roads that have a slip lane coming from the right, they are sooo scarey!!
6) Big trucks/lorries that drive like they're in a rally :sign68:

Needless to say ive taken up swearing whilst driving, and im good at it to (good job i keep the windows up tho

What about Driving with your fog lights on? Seems to me that a lot of people think it a necessity! :loopy:

Dimmock family - October 19, 2007 09:24 PM (GMT)
Hi
I too have some pet hates with the "driving". How can a filter lane be so confusing? its very function appears to be completely self explanatory yet it manages to evade the average driver.
Undertaking what the @#$% is that all about ???? I take the southern expressway everyday to work and see undertaking, this tactic is then done directly on the back of the next pet hate "I am in the left hand lane fastly approacxhing the ar*e end of a truck and so pull out back into centre lane without indicating"!!!!!! Indicating appears to have only one definition " I have put the flashy light on so now I have the right (nay the law) to pull over, I have no need to decide if its safe to do so (after I do have the flashy light on) and do not need to look - and if can not pull out they then look at you with utter disgust perhaps some shouting (like I can hear what you are saying) coupled with some gesticulation. And finally why leave exiting the bl**dy expressway from the left lane to last minute??!!?? I am sure there are many more pet hates/annoyances but for this week these have annoyed me the most , next week could be something completely different, look forward to contributing again.

Hi

Drivers who take up 2 parking spaces.

Drivers who park in a disabled or parent and child space who are not either.

In saying that I have not noticed that happening here, I suppose there will be exceptions.

Funny you say this, I havent seen much of it here either. Will admit to being guilty of parking in 2 spaces on ocassion in some places in the UK, having had my doors dented etc, dont have to here, the parking spaces must be bigger!
