Title: Bundaberg Rum ad
Description: What do you think?
Annette - September 5, 2007 11:15 AM (GMT)
http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0...108-952,00.htmlThe words to the song are:
We wish England was Australia
We’d ditch our colder surf
Have our mates round for a Bundy
The greatest rum on earth.
We wish England was Australia
Every girl would be a sort
We’d be proud to drink Bundy rum
We wouldn’t suck at sport
But England is not Australia
We don’t have Bundy rum
So until you send some over here
It’s Australia here we come
It's sung to the tune of "Jupiter" by Holst...
:P

Snap,
very funny, just wondering though, about the long row of terraced houses or back to backs .
Do you get those in Adelaide? Ive seen the odd semi on realestate , and flats , not that I want one! just curious .
(my first house aged 20 was a back to back B.T.W. and yes , the older people on the street hung washing from 1 side to the otherside too!! )

It made me smile to watch it! I like those occasional ads that make me smile, because some of them just plain annoy me!
I think it's a clever ad, even though I don't drink rum. I'm not a Pom, so I can't say whether you would find it offensive, but I would hope not. I find it amusing.
Jan, I guess the stereotyping is the same as that for Australia by the English, or anyone else for that matter. I find even on these boards there can be a fair bit of stereotyping, which is only accurate for a part of the population - not all.
South Australia has done similar advertising having a go at Melbourne. Can't remember what it was advertising now, but the scene was in Mannum with a paddleboat on the River Murray in the background, so we poke gentle fun at anyone we can, so don't take it personally.
:)

:happy45: Excellent - loved the granny in the Fiesta!
Certainly no offence taken from this Pom!

Hubby said last night it was another beer ad. I think he said Westend, but not sure. It's a long time since I've seen it, but as I said, filmed in Mannum, and started out in black and white, when referring to Victoria (Melbourne?), then changed to colour when they were talking about SA.
Yes, I loved the Granny in the Fiesta as well, and the trick at the end. Have watched it several times now, and showed hubby. Thanks to Annette for the words, as it was difficult to understand. Haven't seen it on telly yet.

The Carling Draught Big Ad they play during the footie is still my all time favourite though - love it when they all fall over the fence! Sooooo clever and must have been a nightmare to direct though!

Love the beer adds especially the carlton draught, brilliant and no offence taken on any others.
All light hearted.

Did England just beat Australia at Rugby, or something?? Sorry, don't follow Rugby.
Actually though, I think what they usually do with those ads, is show the whole lot a few times, then just show bits of it, and in your mind, you remember the whole lot. A clever way of advertising, as you only need a small part of an ad to jog your memory for the whole thing, but they don't need to show it.

I think you're right, I was totally confused by the RAA 'George Says' ad about hitting a truck in Hahndorf and the bartender asking "was it fritz?" until I saw the whole ad and suddenly it all clicked into place. Very clever advertising as most of the time people ignore ads, so anything that makes them sit up and take notice has achieved it's aim!
I guess even the ads that irritate the hell out of me (like the "yes, you heard right, two pairs of glasses" or whatever it is one that just repeats the same thing three or four times arrrggghhh!) have served their purpose well!
True Blue Aussie - October 15, 2007 12:36 AM (GMT)
When I was in Victoria recently, they had an ad that had absolutely no sound to it - just words and pictures on the screen. It made you actually look up at the telly, because all of a sudden it was deathly quiet, and you wondered if something had happened to the TV, then you read the words. No long effect, because I can't remember it now, but I think it was advertising things for sale.
But like you say, often you need to see the whole of an ad to understand what it is about, and it's very common practice to only play bits of an ad once it's been shown a bit, interspersed with every now and then showing the whole thing.

Thats because of all the lovely clean fresh air you have there.
Theres a bit more grime and polution in Beeston though. Doubt they still do it, it would probably get nicked anyway.
