I think the main difference between the UK and here regards learning English is:
In the UK you could get away with little or no English demanding people translate for you when your claiming benefits etc.
Here you'd be screwed without English you would have next to no chance of advancement, hence when you see all the Sudanese refugees in english classes.

There are plenty of people in Australia who do not speak english......just look among the asian communities for a start.

i think it may be a good idea for all the brits on here who are leaving the 'immigrant infested' britain for 1950's idea of australia to go there on a reccie.
The Australia i visited a few months ago ( :crying: i miss it so much!!) was a very mulitcultural country. I heard lots of different languages from lots of different sorts of people
