Title: Steve McClaren
Description: Him or the system
lynsteve - November 23, 2007 01:09 AM (GMT)
Was it Steve McClarens fault for not qualifying or the system allowing all the overseas players in to the EPL and not giving the english players a chance in the EPL.
Stevo.

What did Mclaren ever do??????????????????????????????got what he deserved. he sat alongside Erickson when he meekly sat by and wasted the best talent weve had for a long while. We did have a squad capable of winning....................................Have we now?????????????????????.

Too much chopping and changing, Players playing out of position, too many domestic games,no mid season break,Keegan,Sven,Mclaren........ too soft on the players.

Don't think overseas players have helped....
so....who should get the job then?......more to the point....who want the job?

ME!!! I was the manager of a girls team last year and I did a very good job filling in the sheet and washing the shirts!

Why the English media and supporters always think the England team deserve to or should win is beyond me, they are simply not good enough. They havn't been for years, just because we invented the game certainly dosen't mean we are the best, there always seems to be an unrealistic expectations of our abilities!

Actually.....we had the talent............................not the manager..............and im not talking Mclaren , im talking Erickson. We got through a lot of tournaments by players alone .........just, and when inspiration was needed in the last games..........he sat their dumbfounded.
We got what we deserved with This Euro .............nothing.

Erickson was in it for the public pride, NOT ever for the team
Steve on the otherhand deserves not to be get red of, he was an awesome man.

It makes me laugh all the excuses that always get thrown up when England lose, No passion, Earn to much money! No, i'm sure any player picked for his country will show passion and pride ,but as a unit they just dont cut it!
I always thought Wales had good individual players at club level, but as a
team...........rubbish!
Feel sorry for the next poor sod to take over as manager!

'The reward for success are great, the rewards for failure are greater'.
Not a bad pay-off for failing and in charge for so few games.

As long as there's a scape-gaot, then everyones happy: David Seaman, David Beckham, Rooney, ol' "turnip head" , Chris Waddle/Stuart Pearce etc... It's always someone's fault that the team failed.
I think it's interesting that the croatian team ply their trade in leagues all over europe, whereas nearly all of the english team (with the exception of super sub beckham ;) ) play in the premiership. Maybe the status of the premiership as the best league is a little exaggerated, and that the english players are not good enough to cut it abroad?
Saying that, I never rated McLaren as a manager whilst he was at the boro (it was a bitter sweet relationship, being that he did actually bring them their first trophy). It will be interesting to see who replaces him
It's funny that before any current england manager gets the boot, we all start to reminisce about how good the last one was... Sven wasn't that bad - he got us to 3 quater finals :D Doesn't happen with all of them though....
iron147 - November 27, 2007 09:47 AM (GMT)
Give the Job to Harry Redknapp ,he may not win too many games but he'll fleece the overpaid barstooles (English players )at poker for sure.
But seriously we have to get Stuart Pearce involved he always gave 100% playing for his Country and in my opinion would make a top class man for the future.
Lets all do the conga da conga conga conga laa la la la ooohhh.

Nah Sarah you're obviously still a beginner at this managing thing - OUR manager managed to make all of us parents wash the shirts!!! (no offense!)
As for the England Croatia game, obviously the FA just didn't put their money to the right use - apparently one of the Russian oligarchs offered Mercedes to the Croatian players if they beat England - we should have got in there and upped the bid to Jaguars or something then they'd have not tried so hard and we might have got through!
Ah well, c'est la vie - but nice to see Beckham is still master of the dead ball shot against Sydney last night - he may be getting on and slowing down but there's still no-one else to match him in the 'bend it like beckham' stakes!
