Title: what can i do about noisy neighbours?

sean - December 15, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
we have a problem with noisy neighbours. again!!
mosts weekends we have to listen to THUMP THUMP THUMP music into the early hours.
sometimes all night.

we have been around and asked them to turn in down 3 times, with argument increasing with each request.
although they turn it down, its soon back up again.

it still continues.

at this rate it is likely to descend into bitterness, as i am about to call the council.
does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this amicably.
any thoughts or experiences welcome.

It's a very tricky situation you have there Sean.

As you have asked 3 times with no result you should be seeking other means of controlling the volume.

Obviously the council is the first stop.

Most councils will probably ask for you to log events and even record the noise.
Then they can take action.

You may be lucky and have a good council that will just send a Ranger to the "offenders" to have a quiet word.

Councils and police dread becoming involved in situations such as these.

The best of luck, hope it sorts out.

Hi
I was in Christie's police station a couple of weeks ago (Innocent ) and there was a similar thing being discussed .
Basically the officer was telling the person affected to keep a journal of when the incidents were happening . So as when presenting your argument you have a good case . I would report it as well so it is logged .

Been there done that, we moved house!!!!!! you could phone the cops and ask them to send a patrol round, normally they do and they will have a word with them. Just tell them its been on so long you are a shift worker, (same as them), and keep your fingers crossed.

Have you tried ear plugs? I had some partying neighbours and used to use them, can still feel the vibration though! :cool shake:

Good luck with it, very stressful :sigh:

We used to live in a terrace house, next door was rented out to about 8 students...think the YOUNG ONES and you are not far from the truth....

I just used to put on my big boots then go round and kick in the door and have a quiet word with them....it used to work every time..

every time it happens call the police on 131444 - tell them you are willing to make a statement at a later stage - ask for a message number - they will send a patrol to tell them to quieten down. if the music starts up again call again, and again get the message number, the more times the police attend, the more chance they have of confiscating the music players. The message numbers will help you prove the amount of times this has been a problem. dont think you are wasting police time, you are not, it is a problem and it has to be sorted.
Also for info there is no before and after times as some people think. if it is at 4 in the afternoon and it is a problem, then its a problem.

Back in the UK I was liaison between police and council noise enforcement officers.

Would go with what William says and ring when its a problem, the more times you report it - the more you will be taken seriously.

In Scotland (and probably here too) they day is divided into sections with a limit of what level of noise is acceptable.

Also keep a log and like William says keep the message numbers.

Hope this helps

i suppose i should mention that there hasn't been any threats or abuse, and i dont think they want any trouble.
i think they're just a little thoughtless.
maybe i'm wrong, we will see.

anyway, we have called the council, and they suggested that we visit the police when there is no noise and tell them whats going on.
then they will pay them a visit when everyone is sober and not partying, and inform them of the situation.

so that is what we shall do.

don't you know any nice bikies who could pop round and have a quiet word. the chap i work for had the same problem as you, they were dealing from the house as well. He knows a bloke in the Finks, and he popped round on his Harley and they had a little chat. No more noise, that was 5 years ago.

Sean,

You have to contact the Police on 131 444 and tell them about the noise problem, you will then be asked if you are willing to make a statement in relation to the noise and also if you are willing to attend court.

After that a patrol will attend and speak to the neighbours, they will be asked to turn the music or whatever down. If this does not work then sound equipment can be removed fixted penalty tickets issued or arrest.................

This I do on a regular basis being one of the boys in blue!!!
