Hi
Iam 5 months pregnant and under the midwife unit at the women and childrens hospital. This will be my first (and only) child born in Adelaide as my other 3 were all born in England. So far I've found the system here much more efficient and the midwifes seem to have a lot more time for you. Everone tells me that the women and childrens hospital is the best and as of yet I have no reason to disbelieve them.

There should be a few reports in the kids and baby section on experiences at the various places .
I had our 3rd daughter 3 yrs ago at the Women & Childrens and found them to be great especially the large ,clean labour rooms and their BIG baths !!!
Im now pregnant again but as we have moved will be delivering at Flinders , havent seen anyone there yet so can't comment but I do know unless you are in the birth centre they dont have big baths in the labour rooms :( .Im not giving up my chance to have an epidural in exchange for a bath though

My daughter just had her baby at the Women's and Children's Hospital. Whilst she was pregnant she had a few stays in the ante-natal ward and the majority of the midwives on the ward were rude and quite judgemental in their attitude towards her (she is a teenager). This resulted in her discharging herself on one of the stays. When I had my youngest daughter there two years ago I really couldn't fault them - the care was far superior compared to the experience in the UK. That's why I suggested she go to the WCH.
The other thing I will mention is the antenatal visits can sometimes have ridiculously long waiting times (up to 2 hours waiting at some appts). Not sure how this compares with the other hospitals here. However, when you are eventually seen there does seem to be more time and interest taken than in the UK. Nearly forgot to mention - there is a creche available if you want to leave any of your older kids whilst you are in appointments. I used this a few times when I was at appts with my daughter and it was a life-saver.
Congratulations to you both and to Wendy and Ceinwein as well.

Have to agree on the long waiting times , def take a book .But they are very attentive once you get seen.
Once Id had Emily I did find I was VERY ignored by the midwives on the ward , I think they assumed 3rd timer been there done that !!! .I had a 1st timer in the bed next to me and they were always checking she was okay /had everything she needed ect but maybe she found that equallly annoying :D .

What ever you do dont take your wife to Flinders hospital, they messed me up so badly from one operation in the gynological department, I end up having one emergancy operation on my Kidney I never had Kidney problems, I had to have a further 2 in another hospital, I was so sick I thought I was going to die, so please avoid Flinders.
I'm still not 100%, my operation was in July, I probaly wont be 100% again, because there is chance I might lose my kidney.

Foster Clan, I can't believe in this day and age midwives are still so judgemental, your poor daughter. I hope she is ok now

No problems at all with Flinders here.....oh apart from the parking maybe!
Creche also available (just along the corridor from the pre natal clinic)
Fond memories of having William surgically removed to tradional Jazz...by the jovial surgoens :D
Good Luck to all those with 'bumps' and congratulations are in order for those newly delivered too.

Crikey!! I can only imagine what certified documents you'd need to prove the baby was conceived in Aus!! :o
