WHITEY - December 19, 2007 11:54 PM (GMT)
Hi,

Has anybody got any recommendations for somewhere to have lunch in the Barossa please?

Thanks very much,
Kate

I'd second Maggie Beers, but also Jacobs Creek Winery does a nice lunch.

If you don't fancy something formal, try out the cheese and wine trail - go to Angaston and the Barossa Cheese Company, they will put together a cool bag with a selection of cheeses, crackers, cheese board, cheese knife and a list of suggested wineries to visit, plus suggested wines to try with the cheeses. It's kind of like a mobile picnic, you roll up at the winery, flash your cool bag, and set up your cheese board in the counter while you taste the wines! Great fun!

A lot of the wineries do nice lunches - specially the 'platter' type - Peter Lehmans is another one, but there are loads!

If you want to get away from wineries, try the Lyndoch Hotel, or the Lyndoch Bakery for cakes/cafe type food! Yummmmmm!!

Oh dear - how to narrow it down?

Lou Miranda's is fantastic - though more of a restaurant meal (mains $17+) than a cafe. Leave space for the desserts, which are wonderful - especially the Chocolate Lasagne (?! - just trust me!).

Lord Lyndoch is lovely, lovely food too - restauranty, but slightly less formal than Lou Miranda's.

The Monkey Nut in Lyndoch (Kies Winery) is also great food for breakfast and lunch, and a gorgeous setting.

Cafe Y at Yaldara is also good - though best when there's a bit of water around to get the creek running.

Then if you get to Tanunda, check out the smoothie place on the left hand side as you're heading in from the Gawler end - the best Iced Coffee around!

Phew...

start at central market, fill up your esky with lots of nice food, crackers, cheese, meats and dips, with chocs on the side and some fruit if you must, head to peter lehmans or the seppeltsfield winery which both have picnic tables, esp seppeltsfield which have shade covers, lots of space, buy your preferred tipple and eat what you really like ,lots of it and drink some nice fresh from the vineyard wine, bring a flask of coffe just in case though!!!

enjoy, we do, way too much and bit too often
claire and gerry
