It's still piddling it down in the city, and the radar pictures look pretty nasty, so I'm not holding out much hope for blues skies and sunshine this arvo. :sigh: However, I've packed shorts and a raincoat today, so I'm ready for anything.
Hope my burger doesn't get too soggy
nickos10 - December 21, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
Hi,
The way its going, we won't be going down. The kids will just get fed up, wet and cold, with runny banners :(
will text parents later and tell them not to bother getting up
Liz
rfox - December 21, 2007 02:57 AM (GMT)
I'm gonna still go I think - we'll definately be seen by the folks back home - we'll be the only idiots there
EDIT: Nikki, after your post looked on the GMTV website, as you say OMG - really not me thing - might go take a look but not fighting to be at the front!!
Come on you softies - it was like this every day in the UK for weeks at a time.
By the way it is pouring down here (Reynella) and has been since early morning (3am) shows no sign of let up to be honest,
At least the sea will be getting plenty of water added to it - being as SA water don't try to capture much of it, they prefer to let it flow out to sea! ;)
TheMerrys - December 21, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
It is looking a bit brigher here, and the cloud seems to have moved over quickly - expect to see an end to the rain in an hour or so, and maybe a touch of blue skies by 4pm? :sign03:

Why what happened on the Sydney episode??
snowwhite - December 21, 2007 04:01 AM (GMT)
Its much brighter , even sunny !!!!!
Girls have done a banner so we might go and have a look .
becks&dan - December 21, 2007 04:51 AM (GMT)
I've just popped my head out of the office (in Woodville) and it's stopped raining, reasonably warm and there is even some sunshine...
I went to the one in Sydney a few years back and it was very backpacker orientated. I'm guessing it's going to be much more civilised here... :sign03:
See you there

charlie.no9 - December 21, 2007 09:17 AM (GMT)
it was ok apart from the two slappers in the orange who were insistent on getting to the front ... typical english behaviour
m&d - December 21, 2007 09:22 AM (GMT)
Feel the same..I had left Britain to get away from all that..what a fiasco..spoiled by rude people..I felt it was badly organised. I was terrified of losing my wee kids who had spent ages on their banners but were pushed out of the way. Shame people cant watch their language in front of little ones. Wont be back to anything like that again. Shame really
scottalison6 - December 21, 2007 09:44 AM (GMT)
what else were you expecting with a beach full of poms??It was alwaysgonna be like that....hope the kids are ok..sounds like a bit of a semi riot

Didnt honestly think it would be anything like that. Perhaps because I have felt so at home in Adelaide. My wee kids were so disappointed I felt so bad for taking them and all they wanted to do was to get a message across to their grandma in Scotland. I was embarrassed to be in the crowd when guys were shouting at a female Australian photographer to get them out etc. Never again
james1 - December 21, 2007 10:12 AM (GMT)
hiya
Yep, typical brit afternoon out, ain't we adorable!!!
"Could you please move back to make a bigger circle so that everyone can get on tv!!!" shouted the security guards several times.
Naturally nobody moved, though there was a few shuffles. I moved..........straight home.
My family and friends can see me all the time on skype!!
See ya

dglamoore - December 21, 2007 10:21 AM (GMT)
Yep have to agree - we managed to get to the front with Dawn to wave to her grandma and gradad in uk only for her to get shoved over by a mob running for the camera when it moved. Needless to say she got really upset and it made me feel embaressed to say I was from uk this afternoon, roll on aussie citizenship

Paul & Lorraine - December 21, 2007 11:16 AM (GMT)
my thoughts exactly  it was like being at a footie match with the language coming from the blokes who thought they were at a footie match, dont think it was civilised at all when the cameras came around it was awful people getting asked to move back down on the beach they were moving two steps back and four forward, thought it was going to be a nice family day out, but in the end the kids went to the beach house, ;) they had the right idea. been there and done it wont do it again :loopy:
m&d - December 21, 2007 11:25 AM (GMT)
Find it amazing how people like that get into this country!!! What must the Aussies think....? I dont want to be part of that I am afraid and will now avoid all things British like the plague. Thats the good thing about here...you can choose as you like
Thought I might be the only one who felt like that today but glad I am not

Went home via Marion
Leyland CJ - December 21, 2007 02:39 PM (GMT)
I'd like to add my two pence worth. It was UTTER RUBBISH and those of you who stayed away, well done. You missed nothing special. I was expecting so much more 'buzz', and much better run. To be clear, I wasn't after a 'great big booze up' a la SchutzenFest (because it was free), but the atmosphere was as flat as a tack. I arrived at 4.30pm and was panicking because I thought I was late and the party would be in full swing. (er, no).
There was no 'buzz', no hype about it....where was the BBQ ? Did it even get fired up before 5pm ?! I couldn't smell anything. The band - did they get started before 5pm too ? I ended up giving my free invite to someone in Jetty Road and told them where it was. I left at 5.15pm, after standing around for 3/4 of an hour, watching the 'camera crew' pan through maybe 1/3 of the audience. Where were the signs to tell me where to go for the BBQ ? When did the cricket match start, or the beach volleyball ?
It was good that the kiddies got to say Merry Christmas - I don't mind that at all - but the camera crew spent maybe a minute (tops) in the 'live feed'. The UK end were very disappointed. Didn't hear any bad language, but still - there are kiddies around and so people should know BETTER. It reminds me of the letters in The Advertiser from Christmas Pageant 2006, where some much older people were very mean-spirited and refused to let a stranger's young children sit in front of them because "It would ruin their view".
The feedback from the UK end was that (my dad says) "the GMTV coverage was rubbish, the female presenter (not Holly Brisley, the GMTV female one) was so full of her own self importance".
The highlight of my day was seeing a lovely English Bulldog in the care of some interstate visitors....hello Pierre !
Anyway, Looking forward to meeting you at the next meet-up, hope that it will be a lot better when we 'do it ourselves' !
Andrew&Andrea - December 21, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Just thought I would add my thoughts. The coverage from GMTV was rubbish. I agree about the presenter, again rubbish. On the whole, it was rubbish!!
Very dissapointed. If they are there again next year, I don't think I will be going :sigh:

This all depends on the situation. If kids and their parents have been at an event at the same time as everyone else, I've no problems in compromising my position for their benefit. I won't do it because of lazy parents. People get there early, are patient, etc...theres nothing worse than people arriving late and simply pushing their kids to the front.

Its not the kids fault the parents were late so why would you make them suffer. I doubt kids sitting in front on the floor would compromise anyones position.
Leyland CJ - December 22, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
Let's write and tell The Advertiser, plus the organisers what a shambles it was.
m&d - December 22, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
Well after all the carry on of the day my kids managed to get their message across on adelaidenow. It was nice to see them smile this morning after the day they had yesterday. So badly organised..no sign of barbie...it would have been better if the cameraman stood on the balcony at the surf club and let everyone on tv. I will not be back at such event. Was going to go to Aldinga Beach on Boxing Day but no way. The locals must have wondered what the heck was going on.

agreed...but as stated, it all depends on the circumstances. I'm probably not talking about small kids though...more the older ones, who seem to all be taller than me anyway :D

Didn't think it was so bad, maybe the atmosphere - or lack of it, was in part due to the weather. The band did keep playing from about 4.30pm but kept taking a break to allow the filming, the BBQ was under the surf club verandah, again from the start I think, easy to spot if you walked round that way at all, and the camerman was on the balcony for a while, but didn't seem to pan round much.
I think immigration SA had put a good effort into trying to organise it and it was probably down to the GMTV crew that there was such a lack of organisation about trying to get as many people as poss on TV.
I think it was OK, having seen the Sydney clip, much as expected, I think it could have been better regards organisation of getting as many people on TV as possible, but everyone is so excited to try and get spotted, they just push to the front, I just decided to stay back and if we got lucky and got caught in the odd shot they took around the crowd,so be it.
Have to say we must have been in a good spot as I didn't hear any bad language, but as I say, we decided not to try to push to the front so weren't involved in the busy crowd.
The weather was the big let down, I didn't think it was total rubbish, but probably wouldn't go again, who knows. Nice to spot a lot of Adbrits there!
wizzywozza - December 22, 2007 08:57 AM (GMT)
I don't think it was THAT badly organised really, considering it was an open invitation to one and all, widely publicised on radio all week. It could have been a lot worse. The TV crew were not GMTV, they came from Channel 9 Adelaide, so any critiscism of camera shots have to go to C9.
Bit mystified how people could miss the grub, three large BBQ's, a mountain of bread, lovely helpers from the surf life saving club and the smells of cooking snags wafting across the crowd gave away it's secret hiding place to me.

What is going on om Aldinga beach on boxing day...please tell me nothing more than ordinary families going for a normal beach day out???That is where I was planning to go! Might change beaches now!
I didnt go to glenelg...couldnt work out the reason I didnt fancy it, but having seen the clips and read all the posts I now know why!

Sussex Family - December 22, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
We left within ten minutes as we were disgusted by the language being used by the hooligans on the sea wall. (We have young kids) . We had not seen that behaviour since we left the UK last year and it reinforced our desire to never return. Well done to those who ruined it for the families!
m&d - December 24, 2007 06:52 AM (GMT)
Sarah...re Aldinga beach apparently its mobbed with people. Had thought about going but after the GMTV event I had left people like that behind and thats the reason we moved. I naively went thinking it would be full of nice people who would be half decent in order to get a visa into this country. How wrong was I! I dont belong with a crowd like that and the good thing about here is you can choose who you mix with. For those who didnt think it was that bad...well thats your opinion but its my opinion that I felt uneasy with three wee kids with me and I have never felt like that before and never will again..There were a lot of thugs there and thats what they were...a lot drunk and offensive. We got there an hour early...sitting patiently when at the last minute two groups plonked themselves infront of me and the kids and HAMMERED their banners into the grass. Did I say anything...no just moved and moved. They looked to scary to be asked.
