Title: oz...fading dream
Description: will it get more expensive
advent - December 29, 2007 08:15 AM (GMT)
reading how house prises have risen in adelaide by as much as 10% in 6 months......cost of living on the rise, wage rises limited and below inflation rate, interest rate rises, higher tax bills...................is adelaide becoming more expensive than london........
are people being naive when they think the australian dream is all cuddly and sweet.....................
do you think future applicants should be told the real deal.....maybe a warning on the top of all web pages concerning possible migration, australia..........where the crows are also black

good points you made, i too have been thinking it is not so much the cheap australian city i thought it was, things i have been reading lately seem like prices and rates are on the up in adelaide, have the ones not there already missed the boat for the good deals and prices???

Yes, they are being naive!
The dream of coming over and buying a massive mortgage-free house on a huge plot, with kids attending the best schools; a working week that is easy-going, pressure-free, highly-paid, and where employers will fall over themselves to employ new immigrants; where bills are negligable; people don't abuse the Centrelink/ Worker's Comp systems; no PC attitude; no crime; where teenagers have heaps of outside activities so they never shoplift, graph(sp?!), or hang about drinking on the ovals....isn't here. Or as my 15yr-old pointed out, probably isn't anywhere.
We absolutely love our life here. We wouldn't go back and we'd recommend it to anyone, but would politely suggest that they keep their dreams realistic and their attitude positive. Unless you can bring over lots of money of course! :D
Caroline.
PS. I'm truly not cynical but I do get fed up with people coming over and moaning that their dream doesn't look like it's going to be fulfilled. And of course, this is just my humble opinion. :sign61:

i agree its all about being realsitic - the things i love here are beyond any price - clean water, warm water and good winds and hungry sharks.... :cool shake: ....and many other things...
if you want the dream i can suggest indonesia where you will get a big house big plot cheap bills and live in maids...its a beautiful land full of lovely people
i would argue it remains better value for money than the uk but your dream w ill inevitably include a mortgage and no live in indonesian maid

I THINK YOU HAVE TO BE REALISTIC REGARDING HOUSE PRICES!!
IT WORKS HERE JUST THE SAME AS IT DOES ANYWHERE, THE GOVERNMENT WANT THE ECONOMY TO SLOW DOWN, HENCE THE REASON FOR INTEREST RATE RISES ETC!!!!
WE`VE HAD OUR GOOD TIMES RECENTLY REGARDING HOUSE PRICES AND AS I SAID TO BE REALISTIC AND SMART CAN ONLY BE A GOOD THING!!!!
WE STILL LIVE IN A VERY LUCKY AND BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!!
:bouncy: :bouncy:
