They seem to have a good reputation here, have been around for donkeys years. Even more specific, our house is Hickinbotham built and we've never had a moments trouble, I would definitely build with them again.
Out of interest, as we had some problems with the soil on our land, they asked us to pay an extra $3,000 footing costs to cover the extra work. When we moved in they gave us over $1,000 back, saying the extra work hadn't cost as much as they'd allowed for ... it was a totally unexpected bonus for us and we were blown away by their honesty.

Yep, Georgia is up there - looks gorgeous! Though I must admit I quite like the loft room on the Capri, I want that just for me...
Do you have a plot in mind for building yet, or is that all in the future at the moment?

WOW!!...you have made my day Adelaide girl!!... i'm even more excited now.
I agree with you Elaine that the Capri looks lovely, but i havent been able to see one "in the flesh" as it were. There doesnt seem to be a show house of that one available. Our other concern is that it is a bit more expensive and we havent purchased any land yet and it depends on how much that costs. We are still looking at various locations.
The Georgia we looked at is priced at $122,500, which includes the spa bath, brick paving on all of driveway and paths, front garden landscaping, tiling and carpeting throughout, and most things that were in the show house. The double garage is $5,000 extra. You can also add suerior fancy fitting to kitchens and bathrooms too if you are not happy with the ones they include in the package.

Just as a matter of interest not related to house building ......... Mr Hickinbotham's daughter is married to Leslie Grantham - 'Dirty Den' of Eastenders!

Just looked and they are really nice looking. I like the fact that the bedrooms are down a separate corridor rather than walking directly into the main living space. Are you going to go for the spa option?
The only thing I can't understand about the layout is how they put the laundry room next to a bedroom, even though this is practical in the sense the kids can chuck their clothes by the washing machine as they pass I just think how loud my washing machine is at the moment (on it's way out I think!) and how annoying it would be that I couldn't having it running throughout the night. That said I don't think it would be the deciding factor not to buy a house with that design. Are most of the single storeys like this as most of the websites I've come across have this kind of layout?
It sounds like you have found a good developer though - nothing better than recommendations from people.
Where abouts are the plots PP? Have you found the area you want to move to yet? and what price are they going for?
Sasha :)

when you get here elaine ,you will be buried in a PLOT of land ,you will build your house on a BLOCK of land. ... .................mm :cool shake:
pickledpossum - March 16, 2004 11:14 AM (GMT)
Havent found the land yet Elaine, but now i know what house i want i can budget accordingly for the land.

Actually MM I'm already here and have been for all of 4 months now! Must admit that we still (so far at least) intend to follow plan A and return to UK after 2 years. However, a few years back a large plot of land came up (in UK) 2 doors from my parents and we looked long and hard at buying it and building on it, but it wasn't meant to be... actually it may have been a lucky escape as I noticed they had to pile-drive for foundations in the end!
So, although not intending to stay in Adelaide full time, I do have a kind of unfulfilled yearning for a house built to my specifications.

I hadn't really considered building our own but the Georgia is sorely tempting. :P
It's just the kind of layout we would be needing.
Other than the land and air con. what other things should we think about budgeting for if we went down that road.
Thanks Terri.xxx

Hi PP,
My aunt and uncle, also in Adelaide have a gorgeous house built by Hickinbotham.
They had it built about 18 years ago, and as far as I know they have had no problems.
We are about to have a look at the Georgia now!
Kelly.

Hi PP,
Just looked at the Geogia, very nice.
We also liked the style of the Capri, I think this is my favourite.
Also very good value for money. Definitely keep these in mind for once we are there.
Where abouts are you thinking of building?
audrey - March 16, 2004 09:45 PM (GMT)
hiya we looked at the show houses at sheidow park also hickinbotham homes. the house worked out $150,000 then the land $135,000 and the house was all the basic things. you then had to have all your landscaping done and paving also fencing and pegola. we just could not afford all the extras that would of come to $40,000 just be very careful i have also spoke to another couple who backed out. yes they are lovely but everyone to there own audreyx ps nicki did you phone sue over the cooker :thumbs up:
