Just got back from the uk, now definately wanting to live in Victor Harbour.

There is granite Island with the penguines, the horse drawn tram plus the cockle steam train. A definate must if you have children. Beautiful coastline, well worth a visit :D

We took my family (who are visiting from the UK) to Victor harbour today. And i must say we had a fab day. We had been to Victor a couple of times before and to be honest were not too impressed, but we had never gone over to Granite Island before, until today. The weather was fantastic, the sea was blue and everything was so pretty. They will have plently of beautiful photo's to take home and bore everyone with!!

Hi there

I'm looking for info on Victor Harbour as it loks like the kind of place where we could settle.

It's looks like a mini break/holiday spot but what about the facilities eg schools for people who actually live there all the time ?

If you have any info you can pass on re this particular area please do so as we have 2 kids (aged 1 & 4) and it looks like an out-doors kind of place with the whales, penguins etc.

What about rental opportunities and jobs ????

Any info much appreciated (also quite releived that it looks like I won't be the only pom in this area)

Jo :sigh:

Hi again Jo,

Victor is a lovely place but in the main a holiday town along with Middleton, Port Elliot and Goolwa. Over the past few years now it is fast becoming a retiree area.

Business'are begining to thrive in that area but I don't think there would be anything for Crane mechanics down there if that is what you are after.

Schooling is not an issue they have public and private schooling in the area. See the FAQ section on this site, it's a good start.

Public transport to and from Adelaide is also available but I'm not sure on timetables.

Anything else I can help with just ask.

Cheers,

Jet

Highly recommend a trip to Victor harbour....although the wooden sticks on the side of the road telling you who has died or been injured on the main road down to Victor is a little worrying... :68:

We went down there today. There was a lovely atmosphere with lots of families and people just relaxing. There was the usual fun-fair plus a ferris wheel. The sky was blue, the sea turquoise.....and the lunch was not cooked by me :sign60:

Each time I go there it grows on me a little more.

The road and scenery are lovely...just need eyes everywhere, lots of common sense and don't necessarily need to go as fast as the speed limit allows on that road :sign68: The kids asked after the 'crash markers' today and were morbibly facinated by them there and back

Take a jumper though :D

Just a bit of South Australian trivia: Both Victor Harbor, and Outer Harbor, are spelt without the 'u'. Various stories as to why that is so, one being that it was a spelling error by an early surveyor general of South Australia. At some stage, Victor Harbor was spelt with a 'u', as apparently the railway station is 'Victor Harbour Railway Station'. In 1837, Captain Crozier named the area 'Victor Harbor', after his ship, the 'Victor'.

In holiday times, the population of Victor grows enormously (also Schoolies Week), so it is very much a holiday town.
