Title: Sending Meds by courier
Description: please read and be aware!!!!
lesley street - March 29, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
Hi all
As some of you may know. we have had terrible trouble sending our meds to Sydeney by UPS. Its now 1.00 in the morning and we have finally :sign03: sorted this mess out. There are 3 things you must be aware of;
1. Make sure the surgery sending your meds does not put any value down on the paperwork. Ours put a value of £200 and that has cost us £50 :68: ($121) in tax. There is no getting round it- once customs have a value on the paperwork you either pay up or your package doesn't go anywhere. And the cost goes up the longer it's left.
2. Make sure the surgery tick the box that says it contains documents only.
3. UPS will not deliver to a GPO box. It has to be a proper address with preferably a contact name and phone number.
Don't ask us how some peoples got delivered with no problem- it's a mistery to us. Sending meds has now cost us £90 in total and a weekend of worry.
Perhaps someone could pin this for future reference, to save others the cost and worry.

Hi Lesley
thanks for the info. We are waiting to have meds requested any day now and will certainly be taking your information with us.
There is enough stress and waiting involved in the process without having this added worry
once again thanks for the info

Cheers for info Lesley sorry you have had such a stressful weekend I've printed you thread off and put into our med file ready to go with us,I will certainly make a point of showing who ever does our medical.
Hope everything now goes ok for you (do you think it's another way of making abit of extra cash out of us???)
Best of luck

Hi Kev
Quite probably. Sounds like customs are a law unto themselves.

One other thing to add - made sure if you send by courier that the courier or customs does not open the documents - if they are opened, they are invalid. We were told by the practice manager of the surgery to send by recorded signed for because they had a client whose documents were opened by either customs or the courier (not sure which) and they were deemed invalid, and they had to repeat the medical again.

Hi Debidoo
That was the problem, UPS said they could not deliver to a GPO box as there would not be anyone to sign for them. They looked up the address for us and said there was only one DIMIA clearing house in Sidney, so would deliver it there. So in effect they didn't deliver them to the address that DIMIA put on the form.

 Lesley,
We sent ours by mail by signed for post and it only takes 5 working days and you do not have any of the hasstle with the UPS and not delivering to PO boxes. I would advise anyone to have the surgery do it this way and it costs only a few quid.
