Hi ,I think they are region 4 we are region2 here in the uk so uk dvds wont work on an Aussie player.
Sometimes there are codes to change your region on your uk dvd player ??
Because we were told Disney (in particular )dvds are very expensive in Aus ,We are going to take a british tv and british dvd player and hopefully still play the girls dvds  .
Hope this helps a little ,Im sure someone more knowledgable will be along later !!!

Hi Ozzy,

Snow White is right:
UK is region 2
Aus is region 4

If you have a multi region DVD player you can play all DVD's.

I believe that UK DVD players work fine with Aus T.V's.

Hope this helps,

Lisa

You can buy perfectly reasonable multizone dvds for under a hundred bucks (probably only last as long as the warranty, but still....)

We hired 4 dvd's the other night - 3 were fine on our dvd player, the 4th would only work in the pc so Howard and I crammed ourselves round the pc screen to watch it! Sad eh.... :vioman:

PS and they were region 4, all of them.

we got a DVD player in the UK yonks ago, when we bought it we got it modified to play US films, ie regions 1 & 2.

When we decided to move to OZ my hubby asked about having it modified to play OZ dvd's, they said once it has been modified, it is region free, so can play any DVD. So it had already been done.

We got ours from Richer sounds in the North West, they have stores in several places.

Works on ther DVD's we have bought so far.

Hi Ozzy

When we first bought our DVD player it wasn't multi region but we just went onto the internet and there is a brilliant website that explains how to change it so it is multi region. Here's the web address and if memory serves me correctly you can also check out your dvd player and see if will carry out certain things like play copied DVD's etc

Hello All

Reason for asking is, we haven't yet got a DVD player, and with us keep buying videos for the kids we feel one day we're going to convert to DVD's, and so we thought, why not now.

Asda are doing cheap DVD players for £40 (do us for now) at that price we can leave it here when we go, but then its pointless purchasing DVD's (disc's) if they won't play on Oz DVD players.

So thanks for all your replys, it has helped.

We'll wait until we're in Oz.

Thanks Again

Ozzy

I sought some advice about our gear we brought out from the UK.

For broadcast tv signals Oz use PAL-I instead of PAL-B as in the UK which means that you get the picture without the sound. Our TV which was fairly new coped with this without any problem so it's worth checking whether you can set it up for different countries which indicates it is probably multi-national.

The other problem we found with TV signals is that 4 of the 5 national TV channels broadcast on VHF and other is on UHF which is the same as UK. Consequently our video player could only pick up one channel and we had to buy an Aussie one to pick up the other channels.

For DVD my DVD-Recorder is a Region 2 player but can record from the 1 UHF TV channel and Satellite TV with sound without any problems, and can play Region 4 DVD's too. Panasonic had me believe that I would need to have it altered before it would do this.

But saying all this you can pick up cheap DVD players for around $80.
