Hi

I wondered if anyone has any comments about Henley High School it seems to specialise in sports which would be great for our eldest son.

Thanks

:D Hi,

Quite a few people on here have kids at HHS. Its in a nice suburb, generally very few problems, staff are quite nice, school has a good reputation locally.

How old is your son? Kate is 14 and on the Specialist Sports programme. She does sport every day, which involves some theory about sports injuries, normal muscle & bone structure etc. The kids pick 2 sports from a variety of choices which include basketball, soccer, aussie footy, netball, surf life saving, softball. Henley is especially good at hockey, their PE teacher once played at state level I believe.

Kate managed to do basketball all last term, this term she is doing basketball and Aussie Rules Footy. She also does something called Zone Sport, which is an optional extra, paid for thing, casts about $30 per term I think, and takes place for an hour after school each week, the sprot changes with each term.

She was told she had to be a member of a club (in her chosen sport) to do the specialist sports programme, so she does basketball 4 times a week with the Woodville Warriors, plus swims twice a week, and she is considering joining a girls Aussie rules club.
Kate loves HHS, the kids are generally friendly and there is a relaxed atmosphere.
If he wants to talk to her, let me know and I will PM you her email address, she is quite happy to do this.

Hi Cathy

Thanks for the info - we REALLY like the look of this school, Sam especially - he's 13 (14 in December) and plays cricket here for District and has had County trials, he's a good alrounder but an especially good fast bowler.

I saw cricket mentioned on HHS specialist sports webpage (is this currently one of their specialist sports, as you didnt mention it on your message?). Sam plays and loves all sports (especially tennis, rugby, football ... oops I mean soccer lol, skiing - the list is endless really!) so if we can get him into a specialist sports school we're sure he will flourish even more than he has here.

Our move is a long way off - only just instructed an agent and started on the TRA slog - but it would be great if Sam could email Kate nearer the time for some inside info :D I'll PM you as we progress.

Thanks again.

Hugs
Karen & Co x

Hiya

I,ve also got a 14 year old daughter at this school, but unfortunately I am not as happy about it as Cathy !!
My daughter is not sporty but quite academic ,but the school is not !You are probably thinking why send her to a sports college in the first place ? Well she attended one in the UK , but it was still a very good school and only a small majority of the kids specialised in sports and there was a good academic curriculum offered to the rest .
Henley is supposed to be the best in the area, and I would probably agree but you have to take into consideration what the others are like!(quite rough areas ) and also the fact that the private schools (which are in the majority around here ) are not taken into consideration.

Please dont take this as a moan , just a warning that sports colleges are strictly that !! but they do offer good chances for anyone sports minded !

Good Luck
