Title: Bedding sizes
shazrazmataz - May 20, 2005 10:59 AM (GMT)
Is the bedding ( quilts & quilt covers ) the same size as UK ? I'm sure that I read it somewhere that the bedding was bigger in Oz :D

Hiya Shaz ,
First of all bedding is called Manchester here (I think due to history of mills in lancashire etc ?) and no its not the same size . They have single ( which are bigger than ours ) Queen (our king size ) and King size (bigger again ! )
I have brought quilt covers from UK but bought the quilts here and they are bunched up inside !
Hope this helps !

Thanks JulieW, so there's no point bringing out our bedding. My son will be devastated as he wanted to bring out his Liverpool bedding, mind you I could bring his duvet with us ;) :D :sign61:

Hi Shaz
No it's not the same.
UK single = Oz single
UK double = Oz double
UK king = Oz queen
Oz king is bigger again.
I know we've found links with the sizes all mentioned in before, probably over in Links, or perhaps in Adelaide Living area of faq? But that's the basic story.

Hiya Shaz , I would bring it in your suitcase . The sizes are different but not so much. I brought all of our kids fave covers and think that it helped them settle (familiar things and all that !)
Hope everything goes OK :D

DO bring your heated underblankets with you though - I got rid of mine before coming here ('I won't need THAT in HOT Australia!') and boy, do I wish I had it now!!!!!

That's interesting Julie - I really thought the singles were the same. I'm using Oz covers on UK single duvets and they fit nicely.
And we've bought electric blankets for the first time in our lives since we've been here! Really miss the central heating! Right now it's about 6 degrees when we get up in the morning and will only get chillier from here brrrrr....

Hi Elaine .
Im doing the opposite (using Uk covers but Aussie quilts) and have found that the covers are just a little too small so that the quilts dont lie flat in the cover It doesnt really make adifference to anyone but me! Kids have never noticed . But that may be because they have blankets and throws on top of their quilts im order to keep warm !

Wouldn't have thought so but I have a puffa jacket made from duck feathers and I imported it over to Australia.
I would say bring your 13.5 and 15 tog quilts over with you and a couple of covers to go with them. You can't get lovely thick quilts like you can in England over here and I really miss them! :sigh:

Well we brought out feather pillows and completely forgot there might be an issue here! There wasn't a problem though.

We were so careful with everything as we were scared to death that there would be problems with customs .However when the very efficient packers were doing the boys desk (one with drawers above and pin board at the back ) they asked for something to fill the gap as it would be wasted space So I (unthinking ) passed him all the bedding from the bunk beds (feather duvets and pillows !included )
Completely forgot until unpacked it at this end ! :sign68:
Not sure if they would have been confiscated or not ? But we are fighting over them now (Bought really thin quilts here , and wish I hadnt !)

GOOSE DOWN not a problem as this has been steam treated, we had a problem with quilts from eastern europe, that had chook feathers included in the mix ,we had to keep an eye out for these. We did,nt find any,but AQIS is always checking.....mm ;)
