amandareadie - April 20, 2004 07:44 PM (GMT)
HI
need some help please, looking at builders websites for sa australia adelaide area,we are looking at new housing ,land etc near the coast the builders websites are excellent with good display of the houses but do not seem to give much idea of locations.could anyone let us know some areas where there are new estates etc we need to be near a good high school and primary school.if anyone could lets us know where there is new building going on i can have alook on the map and find out more info about the areas. Are the new housing estates very boxy or does it depend which one, also is there a restriction on the size of the plot or do you just pay more for a bigger size?
we do also like the hill area but are there many forest fires, hope not.Is the land
cheaper there than the coast? sorry about all these questions.thanks alot

Hi Amanda
Bill and I are currently looking for land to build on. There are several new estates near the coast. Heres a list
Aldinga Beach (quite a way out of the city though)
Seaford Rise
Sheidow Park
Hallett Cove
Flagstaff Pines
All of these are not too far from the coast apart from Flagstaff Pines which is probably 10 min drive from the beach.
My main issue with these estates is the small size of lots. Flagstaff is the best at the moment as land sizes range from 600sqm to over 1000sqm, but obviously the prices reflect this. You are not really restricted on what size lot you can have, its just finding it that ids the problem.
My dream house is buillt by Hickinbotham Homes which seems to have a very good reputation. When i went to visit the show homes i was blown away by THE "Georgia" design. So much so that i keep going back to have another look (4 times so far!!)
Hope this is a help

Hi PP
Perhaps you and Amanda/Chris should purchase 3 blocks between the two of you and take half each to get a bigger plot

Hi Kev,
You could try a 'land for sale' search on either www.realestate.com.au or www.property.com.au or www.propertypage.com.au
Hope it helps!

Hi Amanda and Chris,
I had a phone call from Paul at Hickinbotham homes yesterday as he'd sent us some details a while ago.
I asked him about land and house packages and he was saying they have got a few different areas coming up shortly. Sorry can't remember the areas but as it looks like we won't be over till this time next year at the earliest :( I didn't take alot of notice. Might be worth giving them a bell though.
His contact details are: Paul Hogg, Tel.08)83660000
Hope it's of some help.
Best of luck.

I hate to tell you this Montia, but either you have been lied to or i have!!
I was at Hickinbothams office 2 days ago and the guy there was complaining about the shortage of available land in the short term. There was a new stage at Seaford Rise about to be released in June/July but they told me it has been put back indefinitely.
Flagstaff Pines is the new kid on the block but the land is quite expensive between $160,000 - $500,000!! just for land. People have been camping out there just to be first in the queue.
Hopefully there will be better news later in the year. I sure hope so. Also be aware that the cheaper lots of land are envariably on a slope which means extra costs for foundations etc.

It might be worth watching out for the Belair area as there is 37 acre plot coming up for auction on I think it is this weekend so might be possible house land packages in the near future Mount Barker have some as well. We are looking at the idea of a package/self build as well, did not like the look of AV Jennings, Beechwood homes we liked as we ideally want the adelaide hills area and they specialize in sloping land and as PP says Hickinbotham look good to. Like the lookof your fav PP, now is that with or without the spa.

You're probably right PP.
I'm trying to remember what areas he named but all I can recall is that Barrossa Valley and some others were mentioned but like I said I wasn't paying as much attention as I probably should have been.
Plus I'd already said it was going to be some time before we'd be in a position to look any furthur so he was probably fobing me off to make it look like they were really busy. :( they do have a tendency to b****it don't they??
Good luck with your hunt for land though.

Might not be....if it's hills face, there is a ban on development.
Who is the block up with?
