I got the series last week or so and finished it in about 2 days. It's a good sereies but once again Gainax leaves me hanging with that open ended ending. I hate when they do that but it made me think a lot. The characters were awesome and multilayered. You could easily identify with parts of them. I can see that it was dated but that's what I get for watching a show really late. What did you think of the show? Good? Bad? WTF?

I really enjoyed this series. It's serious when it needs to be, but it lightens the mood by being silly at apropriate times. One thing that stood out to me about this anime is that it was done in a very manga-esk style. Just look at the last episode. Half of it is panning across high detail manga. While watching this show, I really got the feeling that I was reading a manga. The way that they wrote in sound effects into the anime just like in a manga.

The characters were very well portrayed. You could really see their personality, unlike in many other animes. Everytime an event occurred, each character responded in accordance to their personality. Instead of "Event A creates Response B," The characters had dilemas. They searched their morals and principals. They seemed more like people than atomotons set to deal with situations in the best way possible.

The first time I saw this series, I saw it at an anime club. I saw the first couple episodes and thought, "Hey, this series is kinda cool!" Then I saw it on Ebay for $15, so I got it. Unfortunately, I got Hong Kong subs, and the writing in the last episode wasn't translated. So that sucked, but I later barrowed it from a friend and finished the series. This is probably one of my favorite series. I still go back and watch it when I write stories. It really helps me create believable characters.
