Title: The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy
Description: I'm surprised that noones mentioned this

I'm amazed that noones mentioned this one. I saw it on opening night and it was quite frankly, awesome.

The movie didn't follow the book for quite a bit of the time, and alot of the humor from the books was simply referenced, instead of stated. Instead of that being a bad tthing however, it actually allowed them to do more with the movie. I've read the book 3 thousand times or so, and as much fun as it would have been hearing every line in its entirety, Douglas Adams managed to throw quite a few good replacement lines and scenes into the script before his death. A good example is this minor spoiler, marked in purple because I'm pretty sure we still dont have spoiler tags.

In the book when Arthur and Ford are picked up by the Infinate Impropability Drive, there's this long scene where everything's going strange, Ford becomes a penguin, Arthur loses limbs, etc. White it was funny, it was also quite long for a movie, and some of the humor is lost when you expect it. In the movie, it's entirely replaced by 2 couches appearing on the ship. The diologue goes something like this;
Arthur: Ford?
Ford: Yes?
Arthur: I think I'm a sofa.
Ford: I know how you feel.

Pretty much th entire movie proceeds in this fashion. While some of the changes I thought were a bit detrimental to the story, they were all written by Douglas Adams himself before his death (the new director was too afraid of getting lynched by fans to introduce anything that wasn't from the book himself). Over all, even though its not an exact telling of the book, it has the Adams humor. My only major beef with the movie is that they constantly bring up the towels without ever explaining them. Hopefully the DVD version will include that guide entry.

Anyone that liked the books/radio show needs to see this atleast once.

Man, I just haven't had the time to go see this movie. While I'm not a die-hard fan of Douglas Adams, I did enjoy HHGttG. This is high on my list of to sees at number two. Number one being Unleashed.

I really liked the movie, but at the same time don't like it as much for it being different than the book. I haven't read the book but have heard about some of it and frankly the movie's storyline doesn't make any sense (and didn't make any sense watching it without the minimal knowledge of the book which I got from a friend). But the movie is really funny which is why I like it, and it's goofy comedy that isn't all serious so it's a nice setback for if you want to just watch something nice for a change.

=D Actually, it's Supposed to be different from the book. And the two radio dramas of the Hitchhikers storyline. And the game. And the tv series. The author, Douglas Adams, tried to present the story differently everytime it was done. Even after his death, the people who made the latest movie knew that it had to be different in it's own way. The newest thing they added was the special gun that made men realize woman's thoughts. The empathy gun. Adams had this plot device written down and spoken about. How it was essential and just never brought into the story yet. But how he needed it in there for, otherwise, unknown reasons. So the director put it in there. And somehow.... It fits... =] that's just how weird Hitchhikers is.

=D I'm gunna get the dvd for x-mas.

Bleh, I was somewhat disappointed with this movie. Though, about as disappointed with it as I was with the book. The book and movie were both good in their own right. I just don't like Douglas Adams as a writer very much. His ideas are funny, but I just don't really like hi writing style. That's probably the entire reason I can't read the book again, nor can I get through the second book.
