Wow. Just.. wow.
I'm not certain but I think this is quite possibly the best in the series. Only if you've seen the others though. I don't think it would have been nearly as good if I hadn't seen 4, 5, and 6 first. The relationship between Obi Wan and Anakin was excellent, and the chemistry between all the actors was great. Palpatine was incredible in his roll. The only possible complaints I can think of is the acting between Anakin and Padame- and thats only a problem if you go into the movie expecting bad acting. You get what you're looking for. If however, you've managed to avoid the constant "those two can't act" hype from the previous movies, the two do a wonderful job in this one, dispite sometimes sappy diologue.
The movie was actually quite heartbreaking. I couldnt believe Anakin in the first one. In the second one, I felt sympathy for him but didn't really like him. In this one, I LIKED the guy, and it made the movies end far more powerful.
So yeah. Excellent movie. Comments anyone? (Please mark spoilers)

Yeah, this one pretty much owned. I have to watch it a few more times, and this may be a bit of a shocking thing to say, but... I may like it better than Empire Strikes Back. It was THAT good.

I've seen all movies but the second one (of the latest 3). Mind you, I'm probably missing something since I haven't seen the second. But hey, I just never got around to it.
I was all happy when I got to see Grevous and how awesome they made him look. Um. Short comment and all.
Though I did notice some bad acting/dialogue *cough* that didn't hamper the movie too badly. And I nearly fell asleep during some scene in the middle (this is natural, I have problems keeping awake during LONG movies). Not to mention those lightsaber battles. Wow. I was in the backrow but I can't believe how the people in the front row were able to keep their eyes from disintegrating.
R2D2 ruled my all. So did Obi and Anakin (Their parts ruled). And the plot was fantastic.
Final note. But my father made me sit through the old school 3 movies after Sith and they now seem a bit darker in story now. Fact, I think Revenge of the Sith makes the latter 3 movies cooler now.
Spirit of Vengeance - May 26, 2005 12:14 AM (GMT)
I didn't think it was that great.
Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed. The battle scenes were great, and the guy playing anakin did a better acting job than in AOTC but there were a few things that bothered me. <SPOILERS COMIN' UP!>
First of all, the jedi got wiped out way to easily. I mean, these are some of the most feared bad-asses in the galaxy, and they get defeated by getting shot in the back? C'mon, couldn't the jedi sense that something was up or something? A big assault on the jedi with an overwhelming number of troopers would've made more sense, but I had a hard time swallowing that the jedi got defeated that easily.
Secondly, the fight between Obi-Wan and General Grevious was disapointing. If you saw grevious in the animated Clone Wars show, you would've saw just how bad ass he truly was using 3 or 4 sabers at a time. That had potential for a great fight scene, but as soon as Grevious pulled out his sabers, Obi-Wan cuts his hand off, causing him to go on the run? It could've been really something had the fight been something out of Clone Wars
And worst of all, the dialouge. From Padme's "Your breaking my heart" to vader's unintentionally hilarious "Nooooooooooo!", its obvious that George Lucas could've spent a little more time on the dialouge.
<SPOILERS OVER!>
But despite these flaws, I had fun. I still don't think its as good as Empire Strikes Back, but its a solid flick, and a fitting end to the prequal trilogy.

MY ENTIRE POST IS GOING TO BE FULL OF SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN OR LIKED THE MOVIE.
I have to agree with Spirit on this one. Ani did do a better job, but he's still not very good. Most of the actors aren't very good. It's sad when Ewin McGregor and a green cg umpa lumpa are the best actors in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I like Ewin McGregor. I really do a lot, but when his acting is as good as Johnny Depp's by comparison to the rest of the cast, something's amiss.
Jedi getting wiped out. Please, They just turn around and get blasted? These guys have the reaction time to block lasers. ******ING LASERS!! but they can't draw their sabers faster than a clone can raise it's gun? Bullshit.
The fight scenes. Nothin'g wrong with them, but not spectacular. They were cool and entertaining, I guess, but they weren't a reason to go see the movie. If I want awesome fight scenes, I watch Kung Fu. Nothing beats a Jet Li fight scene. Nothing.
Speaking of kung fu, let's talk about Yoda's ninja kung fu fight scenes for a moment. I hate them. Don't get me wrong. He totally kicks ass in them, but something about them just doesn't seem very Yoda to me. Before, in episodes 5 & 6, he seemed much like the wise old masters from my kung fu movies. You know, the one that was the teacher, but was obviously too old to go bounding off aftert he bad guy. Yoda, on the other hand, Can do all sorts of ninja bouncing up until he's about 875 years old. Then in the course of about 16 years, He becomes and hobbly, old crippple. I find this hard to believe.
Close to lastly, Vader as an angst teen....oh dear lord. Now whenever I see him, it's hard for me to respect him. I'll always see him as that cliche monster from the abyss from the early 80's movies, rising out of the smoke. Or becoming the living creature the mad scientist created in his lab that just came to life and waddles from it's chain that bound it to it's birth giving table. Or giving his classic angsty yell of "Nooooooooooooooo!!!" C'mon George, you can do better than that.
Cinematography. What can I say? George just doesn't have the the flare he used to. Nothing was bad, except for the part above about seeing Vader in the all dressed in black, looking as if he's rising from the foggy waters of the black lagoon. For the most part, it was the sam old same old. Except, he seemed to focus a lot more on the special effects than he used to. I kinda wish he wouldn't but, but it work either way.
Now's the time when I start mentioning the good parts/parts I liked. The fight scene coriography wasn't too bad. They did well. In the dual between Obi and Vader, I liked how you could see their skill dropping as the fight progressed. You could see them getting tired and slower. Yoda's fight, while I feel it was out of character, was very kick ass. Reminds me a lot of ninja fights in ninja games (Ninja Gaiden, mainly).
The special Effects were, as expected, very fantabulous. Metal seemed like metal, and dirt seemed like dirt. Though, being a gamer, I've seen it already. But I can't deny that it was top notch.
Sound, as always, was excelent. Music was beautifully composed and performed. Mood was accentuated perfectly. And not just by the music. The sound effects were very good. Hearing the alarm on the volcano planet was very nostalgic. The way the Empirial cruiser's engine sounded (the one with the foldy wings) was also nostalgic.
The way ships looked. You can see the resemblance between them and the ships used in episodes 4, 5, & 6. I enjoyed that a lot. Well done, and very entertaining for someone like me, who enjoys the original three so very, very much.
Over all, I'd say the movie is worth me spending $4.75 to see. I probably will never spend a penny more to ever see it again, I probably won't even invest the time it takes to sneak in to see it. But I'm glad I saw it once. But once is enough. I give this movie a six out of ten. It was decent enough, but it had enough room for improvement to fit the titanic through.

Warning, may contain spoilers to maintain freshness!
Ho Ho Ho! I liked the movie, and how much cooler R2-D2 was in it. Did you know C-3P0 was the only actor to be in all six movies. However, despite liking it, Im going to have to say that the movie was incredibly stupid. I didn't read much of what people said because my eyes aren't working correctly atm, and all I can see is every third word, but I'm assuming Cornfed griped about the movie too. I probably agree with him on most things, though even knowing all that, I would still go see it again. I also really liked the thing Obi-Wan rode around on, I have a picture of an anthro one of those somewhere.
I was very confised and disapointed by general Grevious, and also, what kind of name is that. Its like naming your character General Bad. Im just mad because he could have been so cool, but really, just sucked a ton of ass. Oh well.
Here is a silly comic that agrees with most of my feelings.

Yeah. It was a good movie. Aside from the acting. Seriously, a GREAT movie. Bad acting, but the special effects, just: wow. I particularly fell in love with General Grevious. Oh my fulking Gord, I want to bear his children. Shame they couldnt get any good actors though. Sammy Jackson done me shame the way he handled the role. Obi Wan was the only one that didnt cause me pain every time he opened his mouth. Yoda was kinda coo too. But yeah, Anny should NOT have been paid for his "acting" in this movie. And Padme should NOT have opened her mouth durring any part of the movie. Over all, I'd say that I dont regret seeing the movie, I only regret that I dont have Force Lightning. Dark side fo' eva yo.
Cornfed - June 10, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
Now to nerd this thread up even more!
We all know that Force Healing is waaaay better than Force Lightning. Force Lightning takes uses up your force bar too fast, and doesn't do enough damage to really help anything. Force Healing uses a small amount of your bar for a very large heal. Though Force Grip is pretty cool...
Issue13 - June 11, 2005 02:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but Iron Crush, the Sith Loard version of Force Ligthing, chains to EVERYTHING and nobody ever saves against it! woot!~
Graywolf - July 7, 2005 05:16 AM (GMT)
Warning SPOILERS!
Well anywas about the jedi's getting whiped out so fast. By that time everyone watching should have know that the darkside blinds the reading of the force. In other words the workers of the darkside involment made it near immpossible for the jedi to forsee their demise. Thats why only the best of the best noticed at the vary last moment. AKA Yoda
I forgot what else I was going to say. :P
Oh yeah, the General Grievous VS Obi wan. It seemed realistic to me, or at least as realistic as possible. Go ahead, tyr weilding two sword of equil lenth, now try to imanage four. It's hard to move and near immpossible to more with fuild motions.
Anyways Grievous is trained in using four sabers at once, plus he's a cyborg. Giving him that crazy whirl of death wich turned out ot be able to stop. It made sense defeated it with persice timinng rather than running into it.
Like the fighting style with a sword and a dagger, the plan is mainly to lock with the sword and kill with the dagger. Grievous used this vary same tactic, but since the Light Sabers don't have hand guards it leaves his hand totaly un guarded and since he has four his focus is divided and that makes it harder to think of smaller details. Thats also why as he lost his first hand fairly quick it took obiwan slightly longer to take the next hand compaired to the first.
So anyways as he got to two sabers left and his was more centralized and Obi-wan could no longer take his remaining hands and it made it harder on centralized to use his lock and kill technique since he was more acquainted to the four weilding style.
Well I only seen the batle once, and it was quite a while ago. SO I don't really remember much after that.
The acting wasen't that bad, I mean they can't help getting fairly bad lines. But were the lines/acting in episode 4-6 any better? No... But they were still awesome movies.
Cornfed - July 14, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
My problem with the fight with Grievous is that it was too short. I mean, clearly they're both badasses, so why was the fight less than 5 minutes? The reason is because Lucas put too many fight scenes in. He tried to put too much substance into short fight scenes. Thus, they got the watcher into the fight, but then they ended right when they were getting good.
As for lines, 4-6 had fewer bad lines. And most were lines that people remember through nostalgia. Yes, they're corny, but they weren't lame in addition to the corny. Episode 3 had much in the way of lame lines. Made lame, mostly, by Hayden Christensen's inability to deliver lines. Sure he looks the part, and his facial expressions fit, but all in all, you really need to be able to make your lines convincing, otherwise it's hard to take them seriously.
Jedis. Many died after staring at the clones for a good 3 seconds, then drawing their sabers. I'm sorry, but if you rely on the force to help with your reactions that much, you need to brain yourself with your saber's blade asap.
Graywolf - July 14, 2005 11:26 PM (GMT)
There reaction speed was always explaned by being guided by the force, so without the force they are slow. Makes perfect sense to me.
I still don't think the guy did that bad of a job acting. This does seems to be his first major role also. Regardless, who are we to complain about it 'bad acting' if the creators think they pulled off the characters well then they did a good job acting them out. It dosen't matter if others think badly of it. And if they do then they had a worng inpression of the character from the start; Even if it dosen't make any sense.
It's liek dream logic. Everything that happens in your dream makes perfect sense but when you wake up it's not quite right. Something like this is a take it or leave it kind of thing. That is the character like it or not; we have no right to take away his dream.
Also a wise man once said; If a fight lasts longer than two minutes your in trouble.
