Title: We <3 Katamari
Description: Yes we do!

So Friday, I went out and bought the new Katamari game. (Oddly enough, I found out about the game while looking around on OCR...) I've pretty much beaten it and have been addicted to it since.

There's a lot more to do in this game than there was to do in the first, along with multiple ways to complete the levels. Your missions are requests from "fans" of the first game and they introduce new ways of using a katamari. Some of the new types of levels are helping a sumo eat enough food to beat one of three opponents, and helping to build a campfire with the flaming katamari. And of course, you still have your usual "roll up this size katamari in this amount of time."

While completing the requests of the fans, you can find Presents, which you can wear, and cousins that you can play as. No longer are you stuck as the Prince. You can play as anyone, so long as you've completed that request with that particular cousin rolled up in the katamari. And on that note, the game has a new way to do 2-player. Along with having the 2-player battle mode, where you try to be the one who collects the most of a certain item, there is also a 2-player co-op mode for the requests. Player 1 controls the left side of the katamari, player 2 has the right. This mode takes a lot more practice, since you're only controlling one side instead of both, and I recommend having someone else who's experienced with rolling katamaris to help.

If you own a PS2, or have access to someone else's, get this game. (And if you don't have it, get the first game as well.) You don't see a bizarre Japanese game everyday. This is one game that once you pick it up, you won't wanna put it down.

This game is one of the few things pulling me away from my FFXI addiction. =O

I like the feed the pandas guy. Out of the $45k+ katamari, he only took $4.50 XD

Unfortunately the Cow/Bear stage is back, but at least its one stage and not 2.

The only part I like more about KD1 was that I liked the soundtrack more.

<_< I hate you... I can't seem to get more than $27k on that level.

And yes, I'm glad there's only one of the cow/bear levels. I actually was attacked by a cowbear when I was trying to complete it. Stupid thing made me pick up a cow pylon... -_-

And while it's an interesting level concept, I don't really like the "build a campfire" level. Almost every time, I can't keep the fire going for long enough and it goes out on me. I've only rolled into the water once. -sweatdrops-

The fire katamari level can burn in hell. >_>;

Chibi Chichiri - October 2, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
It's already burning... :P

Not if I don't pick up enough stuff. >(

I picked up this game, and it is definetely something that I enjoy. My favorite stage so far is the racetrack one, where your Katamary is just insanely fast and you can blast that song "Everlasting Love" while you just speed on by. "Everlasting Love" is perhaps my favorite song on this soundtrack (So far), but KD1 had a few better songs. Tenshifuumi no Okurimono was my favorite from that one.

Anyway, I do have to agree that the camp fire level is just rotten. I don't think there is enough objects to really make the katamary big. I can't seem to do it anyway, I struggle with getting the damn thing to its minimum size requirement. It'd be alot easier if you could roll up the people into the burning katamary.....but I guess Namco didn't want to go -that- far. After all, it was extreme enough having the Sumo-wrestler able to roll over people (and eat them).

The "Roll up the sun" stage seems to be quite insane. I don't have nearly enough constellations and planets to beat that one.....

I still like this game. I've dropped a good amount of hours into it, and I only picked it up a few days ago.

For the sun, you need at least 200 things to pick up. If you've gone through all the levels a couple times, you should have enough stuff to pull it off. Most of the crap I pick up for that level is stardust, though I wonder if it's possible to beat that on stardust alone... :P
