Title: Wiiiiiiiii!!!
Description: Gotta Wii?

KrazyKelli - June 8, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
I was looking at all the latest game systems. PSP doesn't have games that rate well, so that's out. Xbox360 is too expensive and only has games that make me motionsick. NO way that I'm getting a GameCube. The NintendoDS, while it has some fun-looking games, doesn't have a design I'm comfortible with (the split screen thing freaks me out). And due to the price of the PS3, there's no way I'll be able to afford one til.. say.. it's under 200 bucks (give or take 10 years).

So word for word, I think I'll be trying out the Wii in the future. Either when I get a little more cash or when my b-day comes up (or whichever time it comes out). The controller looks bloody interesting, it has some really badass games. And everyone tells me that the Wii and PS3 are the two latest systems that I should give a damn about.

Thing is that, while everyone (including about 36 ranting conversations with Lewi) is going to get a Wii, I know next to nothing about the actual system and games. Henseforth, I'm making this thread.

When will it be released? What's the general price for a new and used Wii gunna be? How long do you think it'll take for said prices to go down, and does anyone have statistics on how easily the thing can break (I got brought back 2 used PS2's that weren't working properly before deciding to pay the difference and get a new... Which didn't have a controller that worked... And I had to take hte entire thing back to swap because they didn't wanna just give me a new controller). Should I use my money to buy one? Any estimate on how expensive the games will be?

And last but not least, when I eventually get the Wii, what games should I aim to get that you know would blow my world to placid little happy pieces?

Ps: muahaha.. Gotta wii? That's the most awesome of things to come outta my mouth all day

Ajil6 - June 8, 2006 09:59 PM (GMT)
Well. If the PS3 even works at launch. >_> It'll have a lot of wealthy folks or people who saved up the 1000 bucks Game crazy, EB, TRU, and Gamestop are going to sell the bundles for. And even if it doesn't, well. If you're willing to shell out the whole 600 bucks for the functional system plus the money we're probably gonna charge for the X amount of peripherals that you'll need to buy at time of reservation, on top of the 3 games you'll need to buy...

Well. Yarr. You get the picture.

As for the Wii itself. >_> I'm going to buy it, and maybe make out with it for like, two hours.

The things that I'm most excited about for it is the fact it's no longer using a proprietary memory system (or so I've heard). That being said, you can buy one of those neato sandisk flash cards and plug it into the back. And BAMMO! That's 2 gigs of memory. :D

I know how you feel about FPS games, so Red Steel probably won't be a big pull for you. But. If you can stomach the whole 3rd person thing. You're gonna be getting games like Zelda: Twilight Princess on the Wii. While graphically it won't be any better than the GCN version... it'll use the Wii controller to the fullest advantage.

On top of that, games like Mario Galaxy, and Smash Bros. Brawl are going to be absolutely wicked as well. Mario Galaxy is the first mario game to take place in true 3D space... as the whole game takes place in space. :D And you're literally bouncing off large planets and asteroids and it's so freaking awesome.

wii.ign.com has video footage of pretty much every Wii game announced thusfar, with the exception of Dragon Quest.

Which. :D I know a lot of people have been crapping on the series because of Toriyama's artwork being all Dragon Ball-ish (as he did, well, create Dragon Ball). A DQ RPG at launch for *any* console is a huge thing, and more than likely the game itself will be great.

I'm really interested in the Virtual Console stuff. Yeah yeah yeah, people are always harping on how we have ROMs and what not for some of these older games. But the VC presents the chance for people who may not have gotten a chance to play things like Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia, Ys books 1&2, Phantasy Star 4, and BONK :D, and a hundred zillion other games from NES, SNES, and the TB-16 for under 20 bucks, with perfect emulation. No need to tweak your PC or deal with legality issues. Yeah yeah, people harp on the whole "It's not illegal if you nuke it in 24 hours or own the original game!" So far as I know, Nintendo hasn't really pressed charges, but if they can press charges and win, it's still a grey area.

But I digress!

The VC also allows small time developers to program their own games which are available for 5 to 10 bucks a pop. Which is neat to me, because that brings talent that could feasibly do lovely, lovely games in the styles of SNES and NES games of yore.

>_> Not to mention the system is gonna be under 300 bucks, with games that are under 60. Iwata himself said that "60 dollars a game in this day and age is absolutely ridiculous." I agree, mostly cause I dislike the whole photorealism thing. It's sorta hard to play an FPS where I feel like I'm shooting real people :(

>_> I is teh fanboy.

Rancor - June 8, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
I saw the demo footage for Red Steel and I thought to myself "I'm buying this system when it comes out". It absolutely looks amazing. I'm a huge fan of FPS action sort of games, and the whole Yakuza background to the game makes me giggle. Ever since I started watching those Takashi Miike films, I've always had this admiration for Japan's underground crime syndicate.

Twilight Princess and Mario also look pretty fun. And Smash Bros Brawl...including Snake.....

Smash Bro's Brawl just looks good. I'm hoping they'll include Megaman. Hey, if they decided to throw in Solid Snake....why NOT Megaman while they're at it?

Probably won't happen due to trademark issues....but a boy can dream, can't he?

Akisu - June 9, 2006 08:54 AM (GMT)
Despite the stupid name, the Wii actually looks to have the best games so far. I might have to get one myself. :o

Graywolf - June 10, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
http://wii.ign.com/articles/709/709258p1.html

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Wii Sports
Red Steel
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors
Metal Slug Anthology
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Mario Galaxy

So far these are the games that I'm interested in. I want to get a PS3 as well but it's just to expensive. :/ Though I would wait a few year to buy a 360 if you have a good PC. ALl of 360's exclusive titles are also on PC. :P

BlackDragonKing - October 19, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)
Well I was lucky enough to pre-order the Wii, so come November 19th, i'll be taking this bad boy home. I'm really interested in the whole online thing, where you can play all the old games. Yeah, ROM's are cool, but some are a pain to play cause of slowdowns like Ninja Gaiden 3. I cannot wait for this sucker to come out on the 19th, i'll be there in the morning to pick my system up. =D

PHD - October 22, 2006 11:10 PM (GMT)
Strangely, I seem to be the only one intrigued by "Excite Truck" for the Wii...
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the others as well, but no one else seemed to have interest in Excite Truck...

You remember the 80's? Most of you should... Remember Excite Bike? Excite Truck is your revamp version of that. We all know when we're doing jumps off very high places, we tend to move the controller around to try to land just perfectly. Unfortunately, none of that moving the controller did jack... Until now. Our angling the controller to angle the truck will actually do just that! And that's why I'm stoked about it.

I want the other games too!! The Wii definitely looks very promising!

I'm glad Nintendo dug themselves out of the hole from the Game Cube.. Unfortunately, PS has only seem to dug themselves a huge whole for the PS3.. Maybe, someday, it'll be worth owning...

KrazyKelli - November 17, 2006 10:10 AM (GMT)
Wii's coming out soon. And I just learned that RedSteel is coming out along with it! I'm syced. Who else is getting a wii? XD what's games you looking forward to?

BlackDragonKing - November 18, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
@ PHD - Hell yeah I remember Excitebike! :D I used to play that game like mad as a kid. The thing I did a lot was full throttle on the B button until right about the point it was gonna overheat. Then back to the A button. The track customization was awesome for it's time, and I would make some extreme courses.

I paid off the system completely today, and the sales associate told me to come tomorrow at midnight to pick up the system. Only people who bought the Wii will be allowed in at that hour and they will have first dibs on games and accessories. I plan to get 2 Wii points cards, a SD memory card, and possibly a game. Cant wait to get my hands on this sucker! 24 hours! Have you guys seen the size of it? It's tiny! Stack up 3 DVD cases, and there is your system.

PHD - November 18, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
>_< *Wants the Wii* My roomies won't let me get a Wii... They want the 360. I'm not exactly an XBox person, so the 360 doesn't really intrigue me too much. The Wii looks more fun to me..

I have to wait.. which totally blows. Not to mention... This is my house. They're the roommates. Why do they have to make me wait?? *Goes off to cry silently*

BlackDragonKing - November 19, 2006 08:10 AM (GMT)
Well I just picked up the system at midnight! I was the second person in the store to do so and I also grabbed the last 2 wii points cards. :P The system kicks ass and Wii Sports for being a simple game is hella fun! The motion sensing controls are a blast, Nintendo really hit the nail this time IMO.

KrazyKelli - November 19, 2006 09:56 AM (GMT)
That's a relief. PS3 has recently been paying people to brutally trashtalk the Wii, saying the Wii is going to the the worst game system to come out this year. What I REALLY wanted to hear was how Wii sports was gunna turn out ^^`

KrazyKelli - November 19, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
;; I couldn't find a wii anywhere. They either all sold out preordered last night or sold out between 8 and 9 this morning. I went to many many places and they all said no wii. One didn't even carry wiis for some reason.

PHD - November 19, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
Did you ask how long it'd be until they would have them in stock again? If it's within a recent amount of time, you could always ask if they can reserve one for you, that way you're not making it a lottery of if they'll have one available, before they sell out again.

Graywolf - November 21, 2006 08:26 AM (GMT)
I heard that stores should have a second shipment by the 22nd of November.

I didn't get one, but I was out all night in line waiting for one with two of my friends. I got to play it only a little bit, and I must say it's insanely fun. I got down on red steel that same day, wich feel like a PC FPS actualy, so it was easy to get into. I really want to get my point out, Wii is so much fun. So much fun infact I wish I had the cash to buy one. XD

Rancor - November 21, 2006 06:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm totally getting screwed on trying to find one of these. I know a few people who have it and its totally awesome I hear. I keep hearing nothing but positive reviews from both professional sources and actual customers. I sooooo want to get this system as soon as I can, but first I have to find a store that sells the bloody thing >_<.

Amazon.com had them up for sale on Nov. 19th at 11:00am.

By 11:03, they completely ran out of stock.

I'm not seeing very many other stores online with stocks avaible either. This is totally crazy.

Today I'm calling up various stores to see if they have gotten any re-shipments in.

I'm actually thinking about venturing towards Wal-Mart on Black Friday to get one. Black Friday is the big shopping day after thanksgiving, and it is complete hell on earth. Especially if you go to any mall / Wal-Mart like I'm about too >_<.

Aggghh.....this'll be dramatic for sure. But oh damn, do I want to get my hands on Twilight Princess and Red Steel.

PHD - November 22, 2006 12:08 AM (GMT)
Read a news article that the entire North America sold out of Wii's by Monday morning/afternoon. With luck, there'll be more in stock soon... very soon..

BlackDragonKing - November 22, 2006 03:50 AM (GMT)
I still am not able to get online with the Wii...it's so frustrating...I think i'm just gonna wait for the LAN adapter to come out in January. I plan to pick up Zelda this week for it, my best friend told me that it rocks.

Rancor - November 24, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
So I grossly underestimated the powers of Black Friday. I woke up at 5:30am on this epic shopping day in hopes of being able to get a Wii. Saturday night I had gathered up the phone numbers of 3 different Gamestops, 2 Wal-Marts, Target, 2 Best Buys, Toys R Us, and a Circuit City. I called all of them as soon as I woke up. By 6:15 I was done with my phone calls, every single one of them said that they had sold out of stock when they opened at 5:00am. The Gamestops didn't open until 6:00, but the employees told me that there were so many people outside waiting in line that they would be out of Wii stock the moment they opened the doors.

So the moral of the story is that you need to camp outside of the stores if you really want to get your hands on a next-gen system within the first month of its release.

Sadness, true sadness indeed.

Doesn't bother me too much becuase I know that this Sunday, Best Buy will be selling 52 Wii units. I have a few friends who work at Best Buy who told me this information. I'm debating whether or not I should camp outside of the store on Saturday night, or if I should just drive over there at 6:00am.....

I wonder I wonder I wonder. If I choose to camp out, I'll have to invest in some gear. Wonder what I'll need.

PHD - November 24, 2006 06:40 PM (GMT)
Let's see.. camping needs.

Food
Water
Something to keep you warm
Some portable electronic to keep you from being bored
A little extra $$ on hand just in case ($20 should suffice)
Cell phone

If you're just doing one night, you shouldn't need too much

KrazyKelli - November 24, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
I GOT A WII!!!!!!! WOO!!!!!!

So I started today sitting infront of funcoland for 30 minutes to an hour... Sometime around 5:30 in the morning. It was cold, but not Michigan cold (30F but not -30 F). Stood with a buncha people. When it finally opened the employee was all, "Who wants a wii, raise your hand." everyone did, excited.. then he said, "WELL TOO BAD! We only got 3 in! And it's going to these three guys who were here since midnight last night!" So that was a let down.

Drove around with my grumpy father til I talked him into letting me drop and roll infront of ToysRUs. Went in and they told me (after some persuation) that they didn't have wiis... but that's cause UPS was late with the shipment. Long story short, my father gave me a phone with barely any power, a dollar, and left me there expectant that he could get there when the wiis arrive when I call him.

I stood around for 4 to 5 hours with two other guys who also knew the wiis were coming in. Played that one rockstar table tennis game with one of them for a large chunk of time (which was by far the best game out of the 20 or so on the Xbox360 demos. The rest sucked something fierce and lacked entertainment value). My mother visited me and my fahter showed up after some point. Eventually the cart of boxes was snuck in all unmarked and everything... but we followed that employee around anyway. And he eventually made it to the backroom of the games area.

I GOT A WII!

BlackDragonKing - November 25, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
FINALLY I GOT ONLINE!!! The Linksys WRT54G router is the shizzle! All I did was put it on channel 1 and it worked instantly. I've already downloaded a number of games for it. I need to get the Classic Wii controller to play Mario 64. Now I can game in peace. :P Now to just wait till more virtual console games come out.

KrazyKelli - November 25, 2006 12:20 PM (GMT)
^^` I can`t get oldschool games til I figure out how. My father says I`d have to buy a special cable or something to do it and says he wont help me til next march or something.

Sides for wii sports, I'm gunna get Rayman and Zelda =] but I gotta wait til my b-day XD Everyone is going on about how cool excite truck is supposed to be.

BlackDragonKing - November 26, 2006 01:29 AM (GMT)
It's easy to do it, all you have to do is if you have a wireless router at your house, then have the Wii search for the access point and then test the connection. If it works, then the system will update itself. When that happens, go to the Wii shop channel and look at the games. To download games, you'll have to either have a Wii points card, or buy points on the Wii channel using your debit/credit card. It's real simple. You dont need no special cable to get old games.

Rancor - November 26, 2006 08:20 AM (GMT)
In about 3 hours from now I'm gonna be heading over to Best Buy to see if I can get myself a Wii. Hopefully the line won't be too long. Hopefully.

Rancor - November 27, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
I got one. After waiting outside of Best Buy for 5 hours, I got myself a copy of Twilight Princess and the nintendo Wii. I've been playing the new Zelda for a few hours now, and the game is completely amazing. The control system is sooooo tight and the combat is something I really can't get enough of. I spent 25 minutes just by myself in a field, trying out different sword combos. Totally sweeeet. Wii sports is also a quirky lil bunch of mini games.

I completely suck at baseball right now. Every ball I hit is a foul ball or a miss. I'm getting really good at Tennis though, but its important to know that the game should be played like ping-pong than actual tennis. My dad used to be a real tennis player and he was trying to swing the controller way too hard, which resulted in him missing alot.

Bowling is a bit weird, but with enough pratice you can start knocking down pins like crazy. I haven't touched golf yet. My favorite amongst all of the sports is Boxing. Dipping and dodging and all of this other crazy stuff just makes adds so much action to the game. Doing combos is completely satisfying. I get a great feeling of accomplishment every time I win by a knock out ^_^.

Twilight Princess definitely lives up to the hype though. This system is just really, really awesome....and I've only played two of the games so far! In a few weeks I'll be checking out Excite Truck and Red Steel, and probably Rayman.

So far, this system's just been a total blast. Im hoping to get my hands on some more controllers so I can get me mates to play along with me. I hear thats where Wii Sports really shines.

BlackDragonKing - November 28, 2006 01:20 AM (GMT)
Congrats on picking up the Wii and becoming part of the crew. :P I think i'm gonna pick up Twilight Princess this week, it just looks so bad ass.

Any of you gotten online with it yet besides me? We should all add each other to friend lists.

Rancor - November 28, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
Sadly, I have no wifi connection at my house. The Wii also didn't come with that lil USB adapter thing like I thought it would. The DS comes with one, least thats what a friend told me. This weekend I'll be picking up a USB hub (I'm all outta USB slots), so that way I can grab myself an internet adapter to get my Wii all connected.

I really wanna take a crack at the virtual console. The whole Mii travels looks pretty interesting, too.

BlackDragonKing - November 28, 2006 04:13 AM (GMT)
The virtual console doesnt have that many games at the moment, but I do like Bomberman 93 for the TG16, it's pretty fun. From the VC i've been playing Mario 64 and Solomon's Key.
